Need Help - Panasonic DVD-F87 and/or Onkyo AV ReceiverTX-SR302; Infinity Surround

I have panasonic dvd/cd player dvd-f87. It is connected to an onkyo av receiver tx-sr302. I have infinity surround sound speakers connected. The problem is when watching a dvd, I can hear background sounds, music and some voices from time to time. When I hear speaking (rarely), the characters sound like they are in a tunnel. However, I can't hear characters speaking (dialogue). The video is perfect but the audio is a big problem ... not hearing conversations. For example, I have the movie "Armageddon" playing now. I can hear the explosions, the background music and other background noises. I cannot hear any of the actors talking. Please advise. Please note I know next to nothing about electronics, but I can follow directions. Thanks.

It sounds like your center channel speaker is either not hooked up properly or not working properly. First thing to do is check the speaker connections in the back of the receiver and the speakers themselves to make sure the wires are not loose.

Then let us know how you are connecting your DVD player to your receiver? E.g., stereo analog (white red) RCA cables or a coax digital or fiberoptic digital cable? The correct way to hook it up is with a coax or fiberoptic digital cable, in order to get full 5.1-channel discrete surround sound.

Also, it would help to know the model numbers of your Infinity speakers if you have that.

Good luck and let us know if the wiring turns out to be the problem.

I have the same problem with my Panasonic DVD-F87. I get some sounds: background music and background sounds, but not conversations. I checked the cables and they are all in place. My receiver is a Panasonic SCHT07.

How is your DVD player connected to your receiver? What kind of cable or cables?
