Chris,took a gander on Amazon and really loved the Energy 5.1 system for $399.99/free shipping.I purchased a set of Energy rear speakers around 1999 for our rental condo ,mounted them and our tenants love them when they connect whatever system they have when they move in,and those lil buggers still sound great.Now,...to me they have some pretty strong/positive client reviews compared to most of the entry level junk that is around these price points and I am not asking for the moon @$399.99(4 SATS,1 CENTER,and 1 SUB),what do you and the fellas think?And for my silly/noob question of the day...don't laugh...I said don't laugh!lol..would you run the BOSE SUB,or hook up the ENERGY SUB?And yes I will try both,it's just my hearing is just not there anymore and I refuse to ask my wife's opinion!ps.,shoot me an Amazon link if you are in favor of the Energy Set. Yep, I believe I recommended that Energy system in an earlier thread and in my article about budget home theater. BPBS film review editor Joe Lozito has an Energy Take 5 system in his home theater and they do quite well there, along with his 100-inch 1080p screen.

Use the Energy subwoofer, as it's matched for the frequencies of the satellites in the system. And if you need "mo bass" then go with an additional powered sub by Energy or a comparable brand.

From what I remember about your Bose system, that subwoofer is specific to the Bose system and would not really be compatible with non-Bose speakers. It only accepts a speaker level input (actually 5 of them) and then routes the high frequencies to the Bose satellites. Your best bet is to just sell off the whole Bose system as a package. They should have decent resale value as the Bose name has that mystique behind it (for good or ill).

Chris,YOU DID RECOMMEND Energy to me,sorry for the slight!lolLook out E-bay here I come with an almost mint ACOUSTMAS 6(5 SATS,and 1 Powered SUB)and I guess I will run my system in 5.1 for now untill I can add on a couple more SATS.As always,thank you for you advice and input....but I refuse to call you" AUDIO Daddy" or"Home Theater PAPA!!!"

Yes he seems to be just that DAYLIGHT,and the irony is I now am building my low-end system which now consists of the ONKYO TX-SR606 RECEIVER,PANASONIC DMP-BD60 BLUE RAY PLAYER,and now the ENERGY 5.1 CLASSIC SPEAKERS......Hmmmmmm...I think I have followed Chris's bluprints from the start,he is "DA MAN"!!! These little energy speakers really pack a punch!I am impressed with all aspects of these speakers.I just have to be patient and break them in slowly.For $399.00 from your link to Amazon......I highly recommend to anyone that wants an affordable 5.1 speaker set out of the box.I am glad I passed on the Polk's and some of the other "boxed"sets that I had looked at.These LIL MONSTERS THUMP!and the sub is not to shabby for an 8".Chris,Thank you for steering me to these little gems.
