Thread: How to Get PC Streaming to Work on Samsung BD-P3600/BD-P4600

  1. NTFS drive.

No you dont have to do anything just plug the drive and access it !

But be very carefull for your update like I said do it with the CD way.

I dont know though if the 4600 work with the same version of firmware
so I cant tell you what version will allow you to connect a ntfs-drive
    with your 4600...

You see with the 3600 the version were 1.03 to 2.02 and the last is 2.04 which
I didn't get because I'm happy with the 2.02 version.

    I did not saw a 1.13 for the 3600.

    Good luck !

can anyone else verify if they can run an external hard drive with their BD-P4600.like i said i can run mvk files np... doesnt recognise quicktime formats though.

  3. Firmware updade v2.05 is out !

    Firmware 2.05 is out...

At leat on the canadian samsung site.
So it's a xac kind of firmware.

Impossible to know what's in it, as usual...

So anyone here have update to 2.05 ?

For myself I will wait cause 2.02 work fine for me.
But if the 2.05 include a better wifi stability or
make the auto mode working in streaming.
Yes I would do it !

But no new's about that for now...

Is there a list of the changes somewhere?

I've upgraded to 2.05 but I don't see anything new. Still no luck with Windows 7 ...

    Hello,

I am an owner of BD-P3600, and a computer programmer. I've investigated the PC Sharing issue in auto mode with Mac/Linux hosts. I have posted my findings here:

BD-P3600 pc sharing in auto mode: found problem with Mac - CNET Samsung Forums

Basically, there are two different problems caused by bugs in BD-P3600 pc sharing function:

    1. Sometimes no Mac/Linux computer is detected even if it is available and configured.
    2. Even when the computer is detected, if you press ENTER on it, it never shows the shared folder list; it asks for user/password even if anonymous access is allowed, and then fails.

Problem #1 is a bug in the firmware, but luckily it has an easy workaround. Edit your smb.conf file, and add these lines to the general section:

    domain master = yes
    local master = yes
    preferred master = yes
    os level = 65

After you do this, restart the smbd service (or, if you are in doubt, just reboot your computer). Now, BD-P3600 should always see the computer as soon as it is started. Notice that BD-P3600 only shows one computer in the network, and only if the comuter name is LESS than 13 characters.

For problem #2, it's caused by a bug in BD-P3600, but at this point I cannot find a workaround. I modified samba on my Linux box and now it works correctly for me. I will see if it makes sense to contribute this modification to the official samba project, so that the workaround will be available after new Linux/MacOSX updates. Meanwhile, I'm trying to contact Samsung about this; it would be easier if they just fixed their bug!

I hope this helps. I will get back to you if I find out a workaround for problem #2.

  6. Cool Workaround

    Pretty Cool Giovannibajo,

Do you know by any chance what would be the equivalent of your workaround in the windows world...?

    Bd-p3600

OK I could successfully connect. But there is a small annoyance and I wanted to check if anyone knows a way around it. After every power on, the player loses details of the shared computer and I have re-enter the IP, username, password etc. Is there a way to save this info?

My situation exactly. My info does not save the info either.

Have you upgraded firmware to the latest and greatest? Out of the box, the BDP-3600 does not remember credentials for PC Streaming but one of the firmware updates added this functionality.

    Which firmware are you running?

Depends for which of several problems

For the problem of the BluRay not finding any computer on the network when searching in automatic mode, you can try downloading the browstat utility from Microsoft (a copy is here: http://www.dynawell.com/download/res...0/browstat.zip). Then do the following from a command prompt:
    • browstat status => the output is complicated but the first line looks like this:
      Code:
      Status for domain WORKGROUP on transport \Device\NetBT_Tcpip_{DCE0D1D1-C005-43B2-B3CD-49A6A419E415}
This line tells us the name of the domain/network (WORKGROUP in this example) and the name of the so-called transport (internal stuff).
    • browstat getmaster <transport> <domain> => You need to specificy your own transport and domain name. For instance, in the above example, you would do:
      Code:
      browstat elect \Device\NetBT_Tcpip_{DCE0D1D1-C005-43B2-B3CD-49A6A419E415} WORKGROUP
This will show the name of the so-called "master browser" which is a almost-randomically-chosen computer in the network which is the "master" of it, and that it is the only computer that the BluRay will find in automatic mode. If it shows nothing, there is no master browser, and this is a problem that we need to fix
    • Now do: browstat elect <transport> <domain>. Again, use your own transport and domain name. This command forces an "election", that elects a new master browser. Using Windows, you have absolutely no control on what computer wins the election. Rule of thumb is that newer Windows versions win over older Windows versions, and Windows server versons win over Windows desktop versions.
      * At this point, browstat getmaster <transport> <domain> should show you the new master. If you re-run "search network, automatic mode" in bluray, it should show the new master.

The actual problem here is that Samsung BluRay shouldn't just show the browse master: it should just query it for the list of all computers in the network. But the firmware is lame... With Linux/MacOSX you're in better shape, because samba (the windows network emulation layer in Linux and Mac) lets you control which computer wins the election, so it's easy to force a single computer to always win the election and thus be the master browser and always be visible within the BluRay.

This is the only problem I know that affects BluRay and Windows. All the other problems are just simple misconfigurations (firewalls, etc.) that are well described in the first post of this thread.

Let me know if this helps you

  10. Master Domain

    Thank's alot "Master" GiovanniBajo !!!

I will try that as soon as possible and let you know !

    Realy cool stuff
