Hi, just got the Samsung bd-P3600 and have 2 problems

First, I am having issues with the player not being able to ping the gateway. Even though I have DHCP enabled the player didn't get set up automatically so I have to enter in the info myself. When it goes through the network testing it sees the router, it's fine with the IP address, gateway, subnet mask, and all that but when it tries to ping the gateway it can't.

What do I need to do to help that along?

Second, this player is capable of streaming video from my computer wirelessly and it sees my computer but during the initial set up it asks for a user and password. I enter my info and it says it's wrong. Since there is no clarification to what this is I assumed it's the info I use to log into my computer. Is this correct?

Hi, Sorry, looks like no one on the forum has any experience with this player yet. We haven't gotten in a sample from Samsung yet so I'm afraid I can't help. I have tested Samsung players in the past (e.g., BD-P2500) but the network worked via DHCP with no problems for me.

And as for the userid/password issue, I assume you've checked the manual, right? I would think Samsung has to run some kind of software on your PC in order to make the files accessible to the player and this would be where you'd set up the security. Was there a software disc that came with the player? Otherwise, I'm not sure how it would handle networking. Is it a Windows Media Center Extender device?

Check the manual for a default user name or password. Sometimes they just use the word "password".

I too am having issues with the User / Password. The BDP locates my computer using the auto detect function. But like others, I seem to get an error with user / password. Has anyone else figured this out?

The USERID and Password is definitely the same one you use for login on the PC but getting it all working is a little tricky. We've started a new thread with a "cheat sheet" we got from Samsung on making it all work. Here's the new thread:

Hi - I spent all day yesterday struggling with my BD-P3600 wifi connection. It kept failing the network test at the Gateway Ping stage, and nothing was showing up under Access Point. I did a live chat with Samsung, and the rep told me to disable the security on my router. That didn't seem like a good solution, but I tried it. That allowed me to pass the Gateway Ping, but then the internet connection failed, and still no Access Point. Round and round I went, trying different things, and then I decided to go buy a different router. I had been using a Belkin F5D8230-4. I now have the Netgear WNR2000. It set up very easily, the BD-P3600 found it right away, and I was able to activate both Netflix and Pandora.

I just got a BD-P3600 in for review on Friday. Using the included WiFi/USB dongle, I provided my WEP key and got right in, setting up Pandora in a couple of minutes and BD-Live is working fine too. I have a Linksys WRT54G. The WiFi seems quick enough for Pandora, but I may revert to wired for Netflix, depending on how things go.

Odd that the BD-P3600 wouldn't work with your Belkin router, but it's great that you got it up and running with the Netgear. Thanks for posting as it might help others in similar situations.

The BDP 3600 finds our networks but will not accept the WPA/WPA2 passwords or any elaborate attempts to translate and enter WEP passwords. Some have found a way to get the Samsung on their network by disabling iPv6 security measures. Those of us unwilling to do that are waiting for a solution from Samsung. If there is anyone out there with info, it would be greatly appreciated.

No clue personally, but I passed your feedback to a guy over at Samsung and will let you know if he replies. Just to confirm though, you are using an Airport but you are trying to connect to PCs right, not Macs? Only Windows XP and Vista are currently supported for network streaming.

Just received the player, hooked up the HDMI and Optical for audio and all works great.

Tried to use wireless for Netflix and could not get a connection.

Hardwired to the Verizon Router (FIOS) and now I get on-again off-again connection.

When it is connected I get an error message that I need to update my Proxy info when I try to access Netflix.

I am not sure what the Port and User and Password information to use.

So far very frustrated with this unit.

DVDs seem to work fine, but the remote does not recognize my TV (Pioneer Plasma) and has a very short range.

I would really like to be able to use Netfix, any suggestions?
