samsung sound bar and directv system

I have a samsung sound bar that I want to connect to a samsung plasma tv because the sound coming out of the tv itself is dreadful. I have directv hd box that connects to the hdmi3 port on the tv. How should i link the sound bar to the system? I currently have it on hdmi to the hdmi4 port but nothing comes out of it.
I'm sure the answer is very simple, but i'm a complete novice on this sort of issues, so any help is appreciated!

Hello, Voro,

The best hook-up depends on which soundbar you have. Can you post your model number? Is it one with a built-in Blu-ray player or just a speaker alone? And what types of inputs/outputs does it have?
