Different settings for dvd and bd...

I have a panna 42px80 and a bd-80 db player. I want different settings on my tv for sd dvd and hd dvd. is it possible to do this when my player is on the same input on the TV?

No, unfortunately, the TV would have no idea whether your player is playing Blu-rays or DVDs. And since I believe your TV cannot store multiple custom video settings your best bet might be to set one custom video setting on the player for SD DVDs and use the normal setting for Blu-rays. You can get to the BD80's picture setting by hitting the "Display" button on the remote.

The other option would be using the component video output/input for DVDs, but then you'd be passing the DVDs at 480i and relying on your TV to do the upconversion. Since your TV's native resolution is 1024x768 (which is not 1080p, 1080i or 720p), it might be worth trying the component connection to see whether that gets you a more pleasing picture from SD content. Connecting via HDMI @ 1080p, the player would be scaling/de-interlacing the DVD signal from 480i to 1080p, then the TV has to scale that back to 1024x768 pixels for display.
