Default LOTR (Lord of the Rings) Trilogy on Blu-ray Disc!

Thanks to a tip from the boys at the HD Room, we've found out that Amazon is now accepting pre-orders for The Lord of The Rings trilogy on Blu-ray Disc. That's the good news. The trilogy is listed with an MSRP of $99 but Amazon's price is a nice 30% off at $69.99. That's the other good news. The bad news is that Amazon lists the trilogy as "Theatrical Editions" which means LOTR fans will need to buy the set *again* at some point in the future if we want to get the superior extended cuts of the films.

Damn you and your double-dipping Warner/New Line!

But for those who can't wait to see how this shakes out, here's the pre-order link for more details, so you can be the first on your block to see Frodo and his merry crew in glorious 1080p:

Not only is this version the Theatricals, but it's also barebones with no special features (although their may be digital copies).

To get the EE's with special features, including many that Jackson has been saving just for the Blu Ray release, you'll have to wait until sometime in 2011 (to coincide with the release of The Hobbit).
