ZVOX Goes Full Metal Jacket with New Line of Aluminum Sound Bars

By Rachel Cericola

When it comes to sound, you always want to think big. Of course, that doesn't mean you always need to buy big. There are plenty of sound bars out there that can deliver room-filling audio, without taking up all of your extra space.

ZVOX is proving that with a little heavy metal -- literally. The company just started shipping theĀ SB400 and the SB500, a pair of sound bars thatĀ use aluminum cabinets to pump up the volume, as well as the bass.

Besides having that tough exterior, these new products stand out because they are the first ZVOX sound bars to ship with a new computer-controlled woofer system. This perk can fine-tune the excursion of the 4-inch long-throw woofers, in order to generate bass down to 42Hz.

Both bars also have a new AccuVoice dialog enhancement feature, which uses the same type of tech found in hearing aids. The end result delivers crystal-clear vocals from almost any type of content. Other features include PhaseCue virtual surround sound, Dolby Digital processing, aptX Bluetooth wireless streaming, and ZVOX's Output Leveling for taming those super-loud commercial breaks.

Measuring 35.5-by-5.7-by-3.2 inches, the SB400 boasts three long-throw full-range drivers, a 4-inch long-throw subwoofer, a 118-watt digital amplifier, and bass down to 58Hz. At 43.9-by-5.7-by-3.3 inches, the SB500 throws in an extra subwoofer, a 140-watt digital amp, and bass down to 42Hz. No external subwoofer is needed on either model!

Also worth mentioning is that both of these sound bars can be used vertically or horizontally, as well as wall-mounted. Both sound bars can also be programmed for use with your favorite remote.

ZVOX is selling the SB400 and the SB500 now, priced at $499.99 and $599.99, respectively.
