Yamaha Bows RX-V379 Receiver for $299 with HDCP 2.2 and HDMI 2.0 Support

You probably keep hearing about how 4K is going to be part of the mainstream this year. Of course, you're going to need a 4K TV or a 4K projector. But once you have that, Yamaha is making it affordable to build a home theater around that big screen, with its latest receiver.

The company just introduced the RX-V379 5.1-channel AV receiver, which may have the price of an entry-level receiver, but has all of the goodies you'd expect from a higher-priced option. At the top of the gimme list is HDCP 2.2 and HDMI 2.0 support, which makes the 4K home theater possible.

Another nice perk is that the RX-V379 includes Bluetooth, so you can wirelessly stream music to the receiver from any smartphone, tablet or computer. It even gives that audio a little boost in quality, via Yamaha's Compressed Music Enhancer.

Other features include a full discrete amp configuration, four HDMI inputs, YPAO automatic system calibration, and more. It also supports several of the top audio formats, including Dolby TrueHD, DTS-HD Master Audio, Dolby Digital Plus, and DTS-HD High Resolution Audio. (Sorry, Atmos fans.)

Also, if you want the home theater experience but are short on space, the RX-V379 has a pair of interesting speaker technologies. Yamaha's Virtual Cinema Front allows users to place all five speakers at the front of the room and still get that surround sound performance, while Virtual Cinema DSP can create a similar effect using just two stereo speakers.

"The RX-V379 offers first-time home theater buyers Yamaha's high-quality audio and video performance, as well as a surprising array of features at this price point," said Bob Goedken, general manager of Yamaha's AV division. "With Bluetooth and HDCP 2.2, it will provide years of entertainment from home components and mobile devices, as well as from eye-popping 4K Ultra HD video titles."

Yamaha will start selling the RX-V379 5.1-channel AV receiver any day now, with an MSRP of $299.95.
