Bilbo, the Hobbit, Gandalf the wizard and a band of homeless dwarves are well on their quest to reclaim the dwarves' rightful home under the Lonely Mountain. But dangerous orcs, meddling elves and deadly spiders - as well as a growing dark menace - stand in their way. And worst of all, an enormous fire-breathing dragon has set up camp in the dwarves' former home and shows no interest in vacating the premises.

The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug

This, the second film in the series, based on the novel, "The Hobbit" by J. R. R. Tolkien, "The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug" promises to be an exciting addition to director Peter Jackson's canon of films set in Tolkien's Middle Earth. Although some liberties have been taken with the source material (one relatively short book has been expanded out to three feature length films), many die-hard fans can't wait to be immersed into the magical world of Middle Earth once again.

With stunning visuals, and shot natively in 3D, "The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug" is an ideal movie to check out on the large IMAX 3D screen. Also, Peter Jackson shot this film using special cameras at the higher frame rate of 48 frames per second (compared to the traditional 24 frames/second), which gives the fast-moving action sequences a completely new look. Not everyone is thrilled about the new format, but if you're interested in seeing the film as the director intended, then check this blog post on the IMAX web site for details.
