Westinghouse Goes Big with 110-inch UHDTV

By Peter Suciu

With four times the resolution of HDTV, the new Ultra High-Definition TV standard (formerly known as 4K) means that new sets can get even bigger and still provide lifelike clarity. Westinghouse Digital is one of several companies introducing UHDTVs this week at the 2013 International CES, and this includes the flagship 110-inch model, which has a 3840-by-2160 resolution.

In addition to the massive 110-inch model, Westinghouse is also introducing models that won't require viewers to build a new great room. The company's line of UHDTV sets includes more modest sized 50-, 55- and 65-inch models all with native 120Hz refresh rates.

"Westinghouse Digital is bullish on UHDTV and we expect to drive consumer adoption more so than other brands by maintaining more rational and affordable multiples relative to 1080p," said Rey Roque, senior VP of marketing at Westinghouse Digital. "We believe that once consumers see the amazing clarity of our 4K displays that they will rank resolution highly in their purchase consideration."

Most of Westinghouse's UHDTV lineup will be available later this winter. That 110-inch model will be available via custom order only.

Westinghouse Digital is also introducing its next generation of Roku Ready LED TVs. Those will feature Mobile High Definition Link (MHL), which will allow users to plug in the Roku Streaming Stick, a flash-sized device that features the Roku platform. Just plug it into one of the compatible TVs or other products, and the Stick creates a connection to Roku content via the user's WiFi network.

In addition to the 60-inch IPTV, Westinghouse Digital will also introduce a full line of edge-lit LED TVs for 2013 at CES. The new models range from 28 to 60 inches.
