UE Pro Reference Remastered Custom In-Ear Monitors Go On Sale for $999, Tuned for Hi-Res Audio

By Rachel Cericola

The latest release from Ultimate Ears Pro really is like no other. That's because when you order the company's new custom in-ear monitor, you get to tailor it to your style -- and your actual ear canal.

On the inside, the UE Pro Reference Remastered is just perfect. That's because this in-ear monitor has been specifically tuned for high-resolution audio.

The company worked with theĀ engineers at Capitol Studios to fine-tune the product so that when users pop those little pieces into their ears, they'll get to experience all of the nuances and details that you get from high-resolution audio formats. It's actually the second time the two companies have partnered on a product. (The UE Pro Reference Monitor was the first collaboration.)

It's also not the first time that Ultimate Ears Pro has allowed you to customize your headphones. Besides making this model available in a variety of colors and designs with different cables, Ultimate Ears Pro will actually fit these in-ear monitors to your specific ear. Check out our editor Chris Boylan's hands-on experience with the entire process in "Ultimate Ears Pro Does Custom In-Ear Monitor Headphones for Audiophiles."

For this latest in-ear monitor, Ultimate Ears Pro uses the company's proprietary True Tone Drivers and an internal mechanical structure to make sure frequencies are accurately produced. Other features include an input sensitivity of 100dB (@ 1kHz, 1mW), a frequency response of 5Hz - 25kHz, and impedance of 35 Ohms @ 1kHz.

"Our goal at Capitol Studios is to capture the artists' performances with absolute faithfulness to their creative intent, and that means capturing their sound to the highest fidelity possible," said Barak Moffitt, head of global strategic operations at Universal Music Group, who oversees Capitol Studios. "Until recently, it was a challenge to deliver music to the fan in a way that's completely faithful to the original studio recordings, but hi-res audio has changed that. New technologies are emerging that can help bring studio-quality sound faithfully to the fan. We're thrilled to work with Ultimate Ears Pro to deliver that kind of fidelity directly to the listener."

Ultimate Ears Pro will start selling the UE Pro Reference Remastered sometime in December. It ships with a personalized carrying case, UE's buffer jack, a cleaning tool, and a 1/4-inch adapter. Prices start at $999, but may vary based on customization options.
