Toy Story Movie Trilogy Coming to Blu-ray 3D

By Rachel Cericola

This November, the Toy Story trilogy will go to infinity and beyond -- beyond the old 2D format, anyway. Disney-Pixar just announced plans to release Toy Story, Toy Story 2 and Toy Story 3 in the Blu-ray 3D format, on November 1, 2011.

This is a Blu-ray first for Woody, Buzz, Mr. Potato Head, Hamm, and the rest of this crew of cuddly characters. However, Toy Story 3 was released in 3D during its 2010 theatrical run.

According to the announcement, Toy Story and Toy Story 2 will each get a 4-disc set, featuring the Blu-ray 3D disc, a 2D Blu-ray, the standard-def DVD, and a Digital Copy disc. Toy Story 3 adds in an extra 2D Blu-ray for all of the set's special features. All three sets will have an MSRP of $49.99.

If you already have all three films on Blu-ray, the studio is also planning the Toy Story Trilogy Set, a 3-disc bare-bones option, which features the Blu-ray 3D disc for each movie without all of the extras. This one will sell for $100 (MSRP).

All three films feature a 1.78:1 aspect ratio. Toy Story and Toy Story 2 include a DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 English track, with Toy Story 3 getting the 7.1 treatment. Various foreign language audio options, as well as an English DVS 2.0 track, are also available on each release.

Each of the combo packs will include all of the extras from the 2D Blu-ray releases. The original Toy Story includes over 90 minutes of bonus features, including deleted scenes, "Buzz Lightyear Mission Logs: Blast Off," three animated studio stories, and "Buzz Takes Manhattan." Toy Story 2 also has its share of deleted scenes, outtakes and alternate scenes, as well as "Buzz Lightyear Mission Logs: International Space Station," three animated studio stories, and Pixar's "Zoetrope." Toy Story 3 has a ton of extras, including the "Day & Night" theatrical short, "Buzz Lightyear Mission Logs: The Science of Adventure," a Toy Story Trivia Dash game, three studio stories, and more. Amazon is currently taking pre-orders on all four releases, offering as much as 32 percent off the MSRPs listed above. Each one will be released on November 1, 2011.
