Tosh.0: Deep V's Blu-ray Review

By Rachel Cericola

The Film

Comedy Central is cranking out Tosh.0 Blu-ray releases faster than comedian Daniel Tosh can crank out episodes of the actual show. Hence, Tosh.0: Deep V's.

Back in the summer, Tosh:0: Hoodies unleashed the show's first 10 episodes on Blu-ray. The second Blu-ray release from Tosh's cable series adds an extra disc, for a total of 16 episodes -- from the second half of the second season. Um, what?

It doesn't really matter. You could cherry-pick episodes from the show's four seasons, mix them up, and watch them in reverse order. Tosh.0 is not the type of show that you need to follow that closely. In fact, some of it you may need to watch it through the slots of your fingers.

That's because Tosh.0 gets a little grosser with each passing episode. The show has a proven format, which includes YouTube videos, a green screen and recurring segments like the "Web Redemption" and "Video Breakdown." Of course, there's also a ton of puke, porn, and possibly even a few fatalities spread across these 16 episodes. That's not to say that Tosh.0 isn't funny. Tosh has a great delivery and certainly knows how to keep the show moving. However, Tosh.0: Deep V's is absolutely an acquired taste. Proceed with caution.

The Picture

Like Tosh.0's previous Blu-ray, Deep V's is a mixed bag. That's because the show is a mixed bag, combining new content with a plethora of web clips. Within the first 2 seconds of the Blu-ray, you'll know that this is not going to be the best looking Blu-ray. Some of those web videos look really pixelated here. That said, the content with Tosh looks great in comparison, with good color and even some detail.

The Sound

Like the image, this release's Dolby TrueHD 5.1 track has its ups and downs. YouTube videos don't always sound so great, but the track does what it can to deliver all of the smacks, thwacks, screams and vomiting as clear as it can. Tosh's dialogue and the newer segements are always clear, though. Otherwise, the roar of the audience is loud and pretty much the only thing you'll catch in the surrounds here.

The Extras

All of this set's extras are located on the second disc. Everything that's featured can be found on the Tosh.0 website, where the comedian often refers viewers for leftovers from each episode. That's fine, but it's sort of annoying that nothing is labeled on the disc's menu. Even more annoying, however, is that the audio on these clips sounds off, with Tosh's dialogue coming through low and the audience blasting through with laughs. I didn't have any problems with the audio on this disc's episodes, so I'm assuming this is a glitch. You really aren't missing all that much though, with a total of 11 extended interviews, extra clips, and a full 24 minutes of Tosh explaining the plotline to The Human Centipede.

Final Thoughts

Like the show itself, Tosh.0: Deep V's is an acquired taste. As the show has progressed, it seems hell-bent on weeding out its squeamish fanbase. What you get here is a pretty gross collection from the second half of the second season. That's not to say that it's not funny. If you know what you're getting into, Tosh.0: Deep V's should have you laughing (and possibly vomiting) with the episodes presented here.
