2. A Serious Man
Even as a die-hard fan of the Coen Brothers, I was not prepared for this odd little film, nor for the internal debate I waged for weeks as to whether I actually liked it or not. I finally decided I did, mostly because the final few moments were are as brilliant as anything I've seen this decade. Buy the Blu-ray on Amazon

1. Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs
This is the movie I expected the least from, and therefore surprised me the most. Second only to "Up" as the best animated film this year, this tale about an invention that makes food rain down from the sky is hilariously funny, beautifully animated, great in 3D and features some stellar voice work from the likes of Bill Hader and Anna Faris. A delightful treat in spite of the somewhat nauseating premise. Blu-ray review | Buy the Blu-ray on Amazon
