Tablet Deals: Save 20 Percent on Kindle Fire HD and HDX (Today Only)

By Chris Boylan

Still looking for tablet deals for the holiday shopping season? Amazon is hoping to bring you into the Kindle family by offering up a big discount on their popular Kindle eReader and Kindle Fire tablets.  For today only, Amazon has select models in the Kindle line marked down 20%.

Here are links to the eligible models:

Kindle: Great for Readers

In terms of reading books, the regular Kindle is an excellent choice. If you want to give the gift of electronic book reading to a budding young reader, the Kindle will do that without offering up the temptations of games, movie viewing and web browsing. It holds up to 1,000 books and can download a new purchase in about 60 seconds over its built-in WiFi connection. Because of it's enhanced e-ink technology, the screen reads like real paper (without the glare of a backlit LCD screen) and the Kindle can go up to a month between charges.

Kindle Fire HD: An Excellent Starter Tablet

For those who want media viewing and games, in addition to book reading capabilities, the Kindle Fire HD makes a great starter tablet.  A Fast 1.5GHz dual-core processor is paired with 8 GB of storage so you'll have plenty of space for books, music, movies and games.  The high definition (1200x800) screen makes movies and games look great. If you'd prefer to keep your content in the Cloud, the Kindle Fire HD also has access to the Amazon Cloud Music Player as well as access to Amazon's Prime Video library.

Similar to Netflix, Amazon Prime includes access to thousands of titles on demand including popular movies and TV shows at no per-viewing cost.  There's a low annual fee for Amazon Prime membership which also gets you 2-day free shipping on most of the items sold on Amazon.com.

In terms of apps, the Kindle Fire HD is an Android tablet with access to Amazon's App Store for Android. There are thousands of games, tools and productivity apps available, many for free. Also, the Kindle Fire offers parental controls so you can limit the amount of time spent per day on things like apps and video, but allow unlimited reading. For this reason, the Kindle Fire HD is a great choice for the younger set.

Kindle Fire HDX - Better, Stronger, Faster

The Kindle Fire HDX is like a regular Kindle Fire HD on steroids.  It offers a more powerful processor (2.2 GHz quad core CPU) and 16 GB on on-board storage (32GB and 64GB versions also available).  It also offers a higher resolution full HD screen at 1920x1080 pixels (full 1080p resolution), with enhanced color reproduction.  The Fire HDX also includes Amazon's Mayday feature that puts you in touch with a Kindle Fire specialist any time 24/7 365 days a year. This makes the Kindle Fire HDX a great choice for both the advanced and novice user.
