Sony Unveils New Line of Soundbars and Wireless Speakers

By Rachel Cericola

Bluetooth is an easy way to enjoy a lot of music. Forget the disc clutter; this wireless technology makes it simple to stream every song you could ever want from your smartphone, tablet, or computer. Of course, easy is popular, why is probably why so many companies are making more Bluetooth speaker options than ever before. Sony Electronics is adding three new solutions to that list, with each one designed for different areas of the house.

The first and biggest of the new Bluetooth lineup is the HT-NT5 Sound Bar with Wireless Subwoofer. This 2.1-channel wall-mountable system can be paired with any 4K home theater and will support High Dynamic Range (HDR) via an HDMI connection with HDCP 2.2. It can even play High-Resolution Audio tracks via the built-in S-Master HX digital amplifier.

There are plenty of other options for music as well, thanks to built-in Google Cast capabilities. This allows listeners to stream music directly from Google Play Music, Spotify Connect, or Pandora. (Just know that subscriptions and/or fees may apply.)

Other features include Sony's Super Tweeter Technology and multi-room playback via the SongPal app.

For something slightly more compact, Sony has the SRS-ZR7 Wireless Speaker with Bluetooth/Wi-Fi. This four-speaker tabletop unit supports Hi-Res Audio playback and adds in S-Master HX technology to reduce noise levels. Other features include Google Cast, multi-room capability via the SongPal app, and an HDMI connection for hooking the speaker to the TV.

Last in the new Bluetooth lineup is the SRS-ZR5 Wireless Speaker with Bluetooth/Wi-Fi. This one has the Google Cast, the multi-room perks, the HDMI port, and LDAC and NFC support. It also has a Wireless Stereo function, so you can pair two SRS-ZR5 speakers or one SRS-ZR5 and one SRS-ZR7 for stereo sound.

All three of the new Bluetooth speakers are available to order now. The HT-NT5 Sound Bar with Wireless Subwoofer is listed with an MSRP of $799.99, while the SRS-ZR7 and SRS-ZR5 have been priced at $299.99 and $199.99, respectively.
