Sony Unveils Blu-ray Player, Receivers and Audio System with High-Res Audio Support

By Rachel Cericola

Looking for a new way to squeeze someĀ High-Resolution Audio into your setup? Sony Electronics is introducing five of them. The company is packing those musical superpowers into new receivers, a Blu-ray player, and even a tabletop audio system.

For home theater buffs, the STR-DN1070 Hi-Res Wi-Fi Network A/V Receiver has a new DAC (digital-to-audio converter) that supports DSD native playback up to DSD 5.6 MHz/5.1ch. The 7.2-channel AVR includes six HDMI inputs and two HDMI outputs with HDCP 2.2 for 4K/60p (4:4:4), so it supports 4K and HDR content. It even has built-in Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, AirPlay, Google Play, and Spotify Connect. (Just know that subscriptions and/or fees may apply.) Other features include multi-room support and S-Force PRO, which promises immersive sound from just two speakers. Sony has started selling the STR-DN1070, with an MSRP of $599.99.

For $349.99, the STR-DH770 Home Theater A/V Receiver can do 4K HDR video and 7.2-channel audio. It even has the S-Force PRO and Bluetooth. However, this more affordable model drops the number of HDMI inputs to four -- although each one does include HDCP 2.2 compatibility.

If you're not looking to upgrade your receiver, the BDP-S6700 4K Upscaling 3D Streaming Blu-ray Disc player is out now for $129.99. This isn't a 4K Blu-ray player, but can actually upscale HD content to near-4K quality. It also features Bluetooth with LDAC support, so you can stream all of your sounds to Bluetooth-enabled headphones. Other features include multi-room capabilities via the SongPal app, as well as the ability to play music from CDs or USB memory.

The UHP-H1 Premium Audio & Video Player is also a Blu-ray player, but it's Sony's first Hi-Res certified Blu-ray player. This means it can play SA-CD, DVD-Audio, and Hi-Res Audio, as well as MP3s. It has the Bluetooth and LDAC support, 4K upscaling features, and multi-room capabilities via the SongPal app. Other features include support for CDs and music files stored on USB, as well as an anti-vibration, reinforced frame and beam chassis design. Sony is making the UHP-H1 available for pre-order now, with an MSRP of $349.99.

The last in the new High-Res Audio lineup is the CAS-1. Priced at $999.99, this complete audio system is pretty slick, with dual amps and two separate speakers. It's compact, but definitely packs a punch. Other features include Bluetooth with LDAC and NFC support and compatibility with the Sony SongPal app. It's also selling now.
