Sonos Shakes Up its Lineup with the Wireless Sonos SUB

By Rachel Cericola

Sonos is adding a little boom into its product lineup. The company just announced the Sonos SUB, a wireless subwoofer that should complete almost any Sonos Wireless HiFi System.

The SUB promises to fill your room with thunderous bass. Of course, it puts a little eye candy in there as well; check out that cool design!

It also has an insanely easy setup. Plug it in wherever you want it to go, press one button and follow the prompts on your controller. Sonos says that the SUB can wirelessly connect with all of your other Sonos components, for a complete, whole-room audio experience.

The SUB is also easy to place -- on a shelf, under the couch, or anywhere else that you want it. The unit works while standing up or lying down. Other features include two Class-D digital amplifiers, DSP (Digital Signal Processing) circuitry and dual acoustic ports.

This one is designed to work with all Sonos amplified components, such as the Connect: Amp, the ZonePlayer 120, the ZonePlayer 100b, the Play:5 and the Play:3. It's important to know that it does not work with the non-amplified Sonos Connect, the ZP90 and the ZP80.

Also, like those compatible components, the SUB can be controlled from a computer, smartphone or tablet, via the free Sonos Controller app.

"Like all of our products, our new SUB is designed from the inside out by Sonos," says John MacFarlane, CEO of Sonos, Inc. "SUB has all the hallmarks of a great Sonos product: Clear, deep, all-digital sound, an incredibly simple setup, and beautiful design you'll be proud to show off in your home."

Sonos says that the SUB will start selling on Tuesday, June 19. A black matte finish will be available with an MSRP of $599. The high-gloss black lacquer option will cost an extra $100.
