Sling TV Launches on Xbox One, Adds More Channel Options

By Rachel Cericola

Still wondering whether or not to cut the cord to those pricey pay TV plans? Sling TV is certainly making it more enticing every day. Since launching in January 2015, the over-the-top streaming service has added several channels and new equipment options. Now, the company is making even more new announcements, which should please new and existing subscribers alike.

First of all, Sling TV will now be available on the Xbox One. This is the first gaming console to get the service, which is certainly a nice little perk. Those of you with Xbox Live can enjoy a free month of Sling TV, just by downloading the app from the Xbox One Apps Store. If you don't even have an Xbox One yet, now would be the time to buy. The company is offering three months of free Sling TV service to the first 5,000 customers who buy the console between March 17-22, 2015.

The Xbox One is the latest device to start streaming Sling TV. It's also available on the Amazon Fire TV and Fire TV Stick; current-generation Roku players and Roku TV models; Android and iOS devices; and Macs and PCs.

And if you have one of those equipment options and still aren't sure, know that Sling TV is also adding even more programming options. First, the company plans to add A+E Networks channels by the end of this month. That means that A&E, History, H2 and Lifetime will all be part of the $20 "Best of Live TV" core package. That offering currently has ESPN, ESPN2, AMC, TNT, TBS, Food Network, HGTV, Travel Channel, IFC, El Rey, Adult Swim, Cartoon Network, ABC Family, Disney Channel, CNN and Galavision, as well as access to WatchESPN, including ESPN3 and an array of VOD entertainment.

If that's not enough, Sling TV will also introduce two new add-on packs, each of which are priced at $5 per month. "Lifestyle Extra" includes truTV, the Cooking Channel, DIY and WE tv, with FYI and LMN to follow soon. Also, because truTV is an option, this means you can tune into March Madness games! The second new pack is "World News Extra," which features Bloomberg TV, HLN, Euro News, France 24, NDTV 24/7, News 18 and Russia Today.

The new add-on packs will replace "News & Info Extra," which is no longer being offered. However, existing "News & Info Extra" subscribers will be happy to know that Sling TV is planning to give you both of the new packages for a combined $5 per month.

Both of the new add-on packs will join "Hollywood Extra" with movies from EPIX, EPIX2, EPIX3, EPIX Drive-In and Sundance TV; "Kids Extra" with Disney Junior, Disney XD, Boomerang, Baby TV and Duck TV; and the "Sports Extra" package, with ESPNU, SEC Network, ESPNEWS, ESPN Bases Loaded, ESPN Buzzer Beater, ESPN Goal Line, Univision Deportes, Universal Sports, and beIN Sports.
