Sling TV Comes to Chromecast: One More Choice for Cord-Cutters

By Rachel Cericola

Still thinking about cutting the cord to pay TV? There are so many different media streamers that can make that decision seem a lot less painful. Now, one is looking to be slightly more enticing than the rest. That's because Sling TV just announced plans to start streaming on the Chromecast.

The Chromecast is Google's super-small $35 media streamer that's easy to squeeze into any space. You can put one in your home theater, one in the bedroom, one in the basement, and even one in your travel bag for hotel viewing while you're out of town.

The latest Chromecast device is the Chromecast for TV, which uses WiFi to "cast" TV shows, movies, music, games, and more from your iOS and Android devices, as well as your Mac and Windows laptop and Chromebook. However, it's important to note that Sling TV currently supports Chromecast on Android smartphones and tablets, iPhones, and iPads. Options for Windows and Mac laptops will be coming at a later date.

Once you add Sling TV to your Chromecast, you can enjoy all of the service's programming. For $20 per month, the "Best of Live TV" package delivers AMC, IFC, ESPN, ESPN2, the Food Network, HGTV, the Disney Channel, TNT, TBS, the Travel Channel, Adult Swim, CNN, the Cartoon Network, ABC Family, Galavision, and the El Rey Network. It also includes Video-On-Demand entertainment and online video options from Maker Studios. Sling TV even has several add-on packages that can put more sports, movies, and kids programming on your TV for an additional five bucks a month. To celebrate the Chromecast launch, Sling TV is offering a few perks to new customers. If you pre-pay for three months of Sling TV's "Best of Live TV" package, you'll score a free Chromecast device. If you already own a Chromecast, you can opt for a free two-month trial. This offer will only be available for a limited time, so check the fine print -- and check it soon!

"Sling TV fans have made it clear since the beginning that Chromecast is a must-have device, and we agree," said Roger Lynch, CEO of Sling TV. "With Chromecast, Sling TV customers now have the ability to move their entertainment experience from their mobile device to the big screen seamlessly."

Sling TV is available on Chromecast, as well as the Amazon Fire TV, Fire TV Stick, Fire tablets, Android TV platforms including Google's Nexus Player, current-generation Roku players and Roku TV models, Xbox One, Android and iOS devices, Macs and PCs.
