We're seeing more wireless music solutions these days -- and that's just from Samsung! The company was showing off several new A/V options at a press event in New York City today, and some of them will easily put audio into any room in the house.
That's because the company is adding in the Multiroom Link feature to a few select products for 2014. This builds off the success of Samsung's Shape Wireless Audio-Multiroom System from 2013, allowing compatible products to be linked wirelessly throughout the house. Samsung is adding that perk to a new speaker, a soundbar and a Blu-ray player.
However, it's not just something for streaming your personal music. Samsung is adding more streaming services to its lineup. Providers such as 8tracks, iHeartRadio and Rdio will join existing options, including Amazon Cloud Player, Pandora, Rhapsody, and TuneIn. Those same products will also support Spotify Connect, which allows users to stream Spotify directly to a speaker or A/V component, via a connected smartphone or tablet.
As far as the actual products, Samsung introduced several options, including the Shape Wireless Audio-Multiroom M5 Speaker. Smaller than the previous Shape M7 Speaker, the M5 can deliver wire-free music in any room in the house. It also has Bluetooth connectivity with Near Field Communication (NFC) for instant pairing. Once connected, users can control everything through a free app. Also worth noting is that the M5 can be used alone or with additional M5 or M7 units, if you're looking to build a multiroom audio system. It can even be paired with select Samsung soundbar products, as a surround sound option. Samsung also says that the M5 can be used with turntables or CD players through the Samsung Link Mate, which makes that content wireless and available through the Multiroom Link feature. Samsung will start shipping the M5 this spring for $299.99, with the Link Mate available separately for $349.99.
The Samsung HW-H750 Soundbar is more of a centerpiece and comes with a wireless subwoofer for a total of 320 watts of sound. However, this won't just boost everyday TV watching. It can also support 96k/24bit HD Audio. Compatible with Samsung's growing of Shape Wireless Audio-Multiroom line, the HW-H750 will ship this spring for $799.99.
For something that's less of a focal point, there's the Samsung HW-H600 Soundbar. Also known as the "Sound Stand," this slim unit is designed to sit under a TV -- as long as it's between 32 and 60 inches and no more than 77 pounds. Promising 4.2-channel multi-direction sound for a smaller space, the HW-H600 also has built-in Bluetooth and the TV Sound Connect feature for wirelessly connecting the unit to select Samsung TVs. Available this month, the HW-H600 is priced at $399.99.
The last in the new Shape Wireless Audio-Multiroom lineup isn't a speaker. The BD-H6500 Blu-ray Player is the perfect addition to a growing home theater system. It can handle Blu-rays, DVDs and CDs, but also has the UHD Upscale Processor, which promises to upscale full HD, HD and SD content to Ultra-High Definition (UHD) quality. It also features Smart TV access, as well as the Smart View 2.0 feature. That means users can surf for content on mobile devices and stream the image right to the TV, all without wires. Look for the Samsung BD-H6500 sometime this spring, for $179.99.
