Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7.0: $199 Shipped (Save $50)

By Rachel Cericola

In the mood for a little Ice Cream Sandwich? Of course, we're not talking about the yummy frozen confection. (We'll take one if you've got one, though.) Instead, we're talking about the Android 4.0 operating system, which has become an insanely popular option for mobile devices.

One of our favorite Ice Cream Sandwich devices this year so far has been the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2. This delicious little tablet has become quite the worthy iPad competitor, thanks to its list of features, its compact form factor and its inexpensive price point.

Oh, and that price -- it just went even lower. We found Amazon selling the popular tablet for just $199. It originally listed for $249.99, so you can save 20 percent on this purchase, which also includes free shipping. Take a peek at the discount and the tablet on Amazon's product page:

Besides that delicious operating system, the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 has a 7-inch touchscreen with a 1024 x 600 resolution, a 1GHz dual-core processor, 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal memory -- which you can bump up by an additional 32GB, via the tablet's microSD card slot.

The tablet also has support for WiFi and Bluetooth 3.0, so you can tap into wireless streaming for all sorts of goodies and apps, such as email, gaming, music, movies and more. No really -- it's more than you could ever imagine, thanks to all of those app options and access to Samsung Media Hub.

Speaking of which, the Samsung Media Hub app is good for streaming movies and TV shows to the tablet, and lets you share purchases with up to five different devices. And don't even think of putting down the Galaxy Tab 2 when turning on the big screen. Besides surfing the web while watching TV or calling up second-screen apps that are available on some recent Blu-ray releases, this device can also be used as a universal remote thanks to the on-board Peel Smart Remote app and integrated IR blaster!

Other features on the Galaxy Tab 2 include DLNA support and Samsung's own AllShare service. Also, at last peek, Samsung was offering a free one-year 50GB subscription to Dropbox with this purchase so you can access a whole lot of your media files and documents both on the machine itself and online.

It seems like a lot because it is a lot -- and that's a very good thing. Our own Chris Chiarella reviewed this tablet a few months back saying, "The Tab 2 does so damned much, I can't claim that I have conquered it all, or even tried it all over several days of nonstop use." Besides giving the tablet our highest 4-star rating, his review earned the Galaxy Tab 2 the coveted Big Picture Big Sound BIGGIE award. After you check it out, you're definitely going to want one, especially at this price. Just make sure that when you make your purchase, you are buying directly through Amazon and not one of the retailer's third-party merchants. Amazon has the discounted price and the free shipping option -- for now, anyway. Snag yours before the retailer runs out of stock!
