Samsung Galaxy S3 Gets Wireless Recharging with Monster Watts

By Rachel Cericola

There are a lot of new portables out there and every single one of them has a charger. That said, why should you be tethered to yet another gadget, if you don't need to be?

A company named Monster Watts just introduced an interesting new wireless charging solution -- three of them, actually. And all of these new chargers are designed to work with the Samsung Galaxy S3.

So instead of having to charge up that phone at night (or during the day) and deal with all of those wires, plugs and other parts, Monster Watts can do the deed wirelessly. Just place the Galaxy S3 on top of the charging pad, which features compact induction technology. From there, the two devices will connect wirelessly and you can start charging right away.

The least expensive charger of the lot is the Stealth. Also known as the Model S3WST, this $68 option has a thin wireless receiver that can fit right under the existing back cover on the S3. Just remove the S3's back cover, locate the two connecting points to the battery, match up the metal studs on the receiver, and put the cover back on. It's so slim that you shouldn't even notice it.

In the middle of the line is the Simple wireless receiver back cover and charger set. This one just involves removing the back cover and replacing it with the wireless receiver. Monster Watts says it only adds about 1mm to the phone's thickness, which means that it should fit into any standard S3 case. Also known as the Model S3WBK, the company has priced this option at $98.

Last in the new line is the Super Pack, which is also known as Model S3WSP. This $118 product has an external case with a built-in wireless receiver and rechargeable back-up battery. Just slide the S3 into the Super Pack and it charges up wirelessly. It even charges a back-up 1200mAh battery, too.

Monster Watts is currently taking order via the crowdfunding site Indiegogo, with plans to ship in late April. Those Early Bird orders will also receive a discount, with charger prices starting at $45.
