SVS Starts Shipping Ultra Bookshelf Speakers

By Rachel Cericola

We already know that really big sound can come from pretty small packages. However, a lot of you probably don't know that some of those small packages are brand new and now shipping from SVS.

The company just announced availability for its Ultra Bookshelf speakers. Taking some of its design cues from the company's Ultra Tower speaker, each  Ultra Bookshelf model has wedge-shaped front baffle and flush-mounted drivers, proprietary SVS drivers, and the intelligent SoundMatch Crossover Network.

Designed to crank out audio in both small- and medium-sized rooms, this two-way monitor boasts several interesting features, including FEA optimization, a 6.5-inch composite glass-fiber cone woofer, and SVS' SoundMatch two-way crossover network. It's also important to note that each speaker has premium-grade capacitors, air-core inductors and heavy-trace printed circuit boards.

"Listening with eyes closed, it's easy to convince yourself the sound produced by the Ultra Bookshelf is coming from a speaker twice the size and price," said Gary Yacoubian, SVS president and managing partner. "$1,000 gets you a pretty phenomenal audio experience and from a value perspective, these are already being discussed as among the most highly-regarded two-way monitors on the market."

Weighing in at a hearty 19 pounds each, the Ultra Bookshelf speakers are available now in piano gloss black and real black oak veneer finishes. Each version can be found on the web, priced at $998 per pair.
