Runco XtremeProjection Brings the Big Picture to CEDIA 2012

By Peter Suciu

For those who want a really big picture, beyond even the largest flat panel display only a front projector will do.  And this week at CEDIA in Indianapolis, Runco is taking things to the extreme with the introduction of the XtremeProjection series.

Designed for the custom install market the new line includes three models, the X-200i, X400d and X-450d. Each can provide a maximum screen from 171 to 235 inches wide - the equivalent of a 270-inch (22.5 foot) diagonal video image. The series utilizes DLP SuperOnyx imaging technology along with proprietary electronics, processing and optics to deliver images from both 2D and 3D sources.

The XtremeProjection series come equipped with three pair of active 3D glasses so viewers don't have to worry about a guest being left out. The projectors use frame sequential 3D technology to allow users to view 2D and 3D content on the same screen with full 1080p HD resolution delivered to both eyes.

All three models from Runco feature the company's award-winning CineWide and CineWide with AutoScope lens technology; the first 2.35:1 projection solution that has been adopted industry wide to recreate the theatrical experience with 2.35:1 ratio movies.

The X-200i features a single-chip DLP imaging engine, which uncalibrated outputs 1420 ANSI lumens, and with calibration to Runco's CSMS specs can achieve a light output of 50 Foot-Lamberts (fL); while the x-400d pumps out over 2100 ANSI lumens (uncalibrated) and offers a contrast ratio greater than 10000:1, while delivering 42 fL of brightness when calibrated.

The top of the line X450d truly shines out, while boasting a brightness in excess of 3780 ANSI lumens, or a stunning 94 fL of brightness when calibrated to CSMS standards.

The X-200i further offers an integrated processor, while the X-400d and X450d come with Runco's new Dimension Digital Controller (DC-300), which has been designed to enhance 3D performance. The rack mounted component further offers advanced connectivity options, with a single-wire connection from the processor to the projector.

All three models feature ISF (Imaging Science Foundation) calibration settings for optimal performance, with both ISF Day and ISF Night presets. The series chassis can be customized with Runco's ColourPalette design options as well to fit into any home theater.

"Runco's legacy in incomparable visual experiences continues with this new XtremeProjection series," said Jennifer Davis, vice president of marketing for Runco, in a statement. "These new systems demonstrate our commitment to the success of dealers and the delight of their clients, with exceptional video performance, beautiful 3D performance, and the features and options that make Runco a perfect fit for any theater design, all at a great price."

This new series will begin shipping in this month 2012, with retail prices starting at $14,995 for the X-200i. The X-400d is $34,995 and X-450d is $39,995, including the DC-300 processor.
