3D TV: Porn Comes to Blu-ray 3D Disc with Erotek Dimensions and This Ain’t Avatar
Bow-chicka-wow-wow! While the major studios are still mostly shuffling their feet with Blu-ray 3D releases, the adult film industry has heard the call and is coming on board with the first erotic 3D adventures to be released in the new format. 3D Amazements Inc. just announced that they're accepting pre-orders for the Erotek Dimensions 3D Blu-ray 3D Disc, which will start shipping next month.
The "film" has scantily-clad sci-fi babes, as well as Doria, the former host of Playboy TV's Night Calls. Doria plays a hot scientist. Um, is there any other kind? Apparently, she is a super-genius, who can conjure up holographic couples to act out her sexual fantasies.
The most awesome part of this whole thing is that the announcement states that, "the starring holographic couples were married in real life at the time of production." Wonder how many couples didn't make it through? [editor's note: the holograms must have gotten married in Massachusetts or California...].
Erotek Dimensions 3D apparently used its costume budget on technology; the movie was originally shot in native dual camera 3D. It also boasts the "world's first 3D Adult DVD previously released in field sequential interlaced format for Standard Definition (CRT) Television Sets using Active 3D Shutter Glasses via a signal emitter kit." Well, fortunately for us, the technology has gotten simpler: just insert the Blu-ray 3D disc into a compatible player which is hooked up to a 3D-ready TV, put on your glasses, and you're good to go. But don't invite any friends over, unless you're prepared to share (the 3D glasses that is).
But back to Erotek Dimensions and the first true adult-oriented Blu-ray 3D Disc, let's hear from the film-maker himself:
"I've long considered 3-D to be the future of entertainment and not just a fad," says Nicholas Scot, creator of Erotek Dimensions 3D. "It's an exciting time as filmmakers, electronics manufacturers and audiences around the world are embracing 3D. Erotek Dimensions 3D offers a unique and affordable entry of compelling stereoscopic content into the Blu-ray 3D arena."
Two versions of Erotek Dimensions 3D are available on the Blu-ray 3D. There's a 16:9 version and in the original 4:3 aspect ratio. Despite having a $17.95 list price, the studio is knocking off $5 for pre-orders: only $12.95 if purchased in advance. The Blu-ray 3D will begin shipping on November 16, 2010.
