Philips Adds Google Cast to 6000 Series 4K Ultra HD TVs

By Rachel Cericola

Back in January, Philips was talking up the 6000 Series, a new lineup of 4K Ultra HD TVs in three screen sizes. Well, it looks like the company will start shipping those out soon -- and they're adding in extra features and even an extra size option.

All four of the 4K TVs under the 6000 Series will include Google Cast features. This perk offers the same type of action you'd get from Chromecast, but without an add-on box or dongle. Google Cast allows users to stream movies, TV shows, music, games, and more from any connected phone, tablet, or laptop directly to that big screen.

To use Google Cast, just tap the Cast button in Google Cast-enabled apps such as Netflix, YouTube, and VUDU. Besides being able to "cast" content to the TV, Google Cast allows you to use the phone as a remote control. It can even serve as a controller for gaming!

Besides Google Cast, all Philips 6000 Series TVs feature eye-popping 4K images and High Dynamic Range (HDR) support. New to the company's 2016 4K TVs, HDR promises increased brightness, bolder colors, and better contrast.

Each set also has the 120 Perfect Motion Rate for action scenes and sports and Sonic Emotion's Absolute 3D sound to give the TV's audio a little boost. Other features include 802.11ac Wireless LAN with MIMO antennas, HDMI 2.0a with HDCP 2.2 on all HDMI ports, and built-in HEVC and VP9 decoders.

The 49-inch 49PFL6921/F7 and 55-inch 55PFL6921/F7 also include the BrightPro LED backlighting system with Micro Dimming backlight for better HDR on IPS LCD panels. The 43-inch 43PFL6621/F7 and 65-inch 5PFL6621/F7 have Macro Dimming LED backlight on a VA LCD panel, as well as the HDR features.

"Our new 6000 Series TVs provide the consumer with the convenience and versatility of Google Cast, plus the peace of mind that they are getting a top-performing 4K television with the most up-to-date technology that provides outstanding picture quality and ensures that the TV will work flawlessly with 4K sources," said Karl Bearnarth, executive vice president of sales and marketing for P&F USA, Inc., the exclusive North American licensee for Philips consumer televisions and home video products.

The Philips 6000 Series will start shipping this summer. The 49PFL6921/F7 and 55PFL6921/F7 will be available in June, priced at $799.99 and $999.99, respectively. The 43PFL6621/F7 and 65PFL6621/F7 will follow in July for $649.99 and $1,499.99.
