Panasonic, Fox, Sony and Disney Win Big at DEG Awards

The Digital Entertainment Group--the industry consortium of consumer video hardware manufacturers, movie studios and others--gathered once again at the Consumer Electronics Show to recognize the best home theater gear and discs released in calendar 2010. Up first was hardware, as The Digital Entertainment Group annually bestows three Emiel N. Petrone Digital Innovation Awards, so named for DEG's founding Chairman, for outstanding products. The 2010 winners were:

The DEG Emiel N. Petrone Digital Innovation Award for Sight:

Panasonic TC-P50VT25 50" Viera Full HD 3D 1080p Plasma

The Emiel N. Petrone Digital Innovation Award for Source:

Panasonic DMP-BDT100 Full HD 3D Blu-ray Disc Player

And the Digital Innovation Award for Sound:

Sony ElectronicsSTR-DA5600ES 7.1 Channel Network Multi-Room A/V Receiver

Bruce Springsteen's landmark six-disc Blu-ray/CD set took home top Music honors.

The DEG also handed out Creative Excellence Awards for Blu-ray Discs in six categories, In addition to overall sound and picture quality, all titles were judged for those features that best demonstrate the value-added nature of the format. And so the DEG Creative Excellence Award winners for 2010:

Theatrical Title of the Year:

Avatar Extended Collector's Edition (Fox)

Classic/"Catalog" Title of the Year:

The Sound of Music 45th Anniversary Edition (Fox)

TV Title of the Year:

LOST The Complete Collection (Disney)

Non-Theatrical Title of the Year:

LIFE (Narrated by David Attenborough) (BBC/Warner)

Music Title of the Year:

The Promise: The Darkness on the Edge of Town Story (Columbia Records/Sony Music)

3D Title of the Year:

Disney's A Christmas Carol (Disney)

And in a virtual landslide, Big Picture Big Sound affiliate Amazon.com was also voted Retailer of the Year for Software.
