Optoma Neo-i Pico Projector iPod Dock Coming in December for $449

By Chris Chiarella

Following Rachel Cericola's initial report, Optoma has now announced the consumer availability of their much-anticipated all-in-one Neo-i iPod Sound Dock with Built-In Pico Projector. Starting in mid-December, we can take home the revolutionary iPod dock with its own integrated LED-powered DLP projector, at the previously revealed price point of $449.

What's more, Optoma had a working sample at the New York City CES Press Preview event last night. Despite an extremely bright room environment, the Neo-i threw an impressively clear image on the small screen beside it on the table. The hardware itself is at first glance similar to other iPod docks we've seen, a glossy plastic chassis housing its own stereo speakers. The first clue to its special powers is the substantial jack pack, including HDMI input.

Of course, the video projection shooting out the rear was a tip-off as well. Optoma is targeting a younger market with the Neo-i, as the iPod/iPhone-ready (and iPad via an optional adapter kit) would be right at home in a teen's bedroom, or any compact space in need of convenient, versatile sound and picture.

The Optoma Neo-i projector (shown here playing the movie UP in better quality than my camera could capture) is not your typical iPod dock.

Again, the unit will go on sale in the middle of December, so if you're looking for a last-minute Christmas gift, or if you have $449 left over for yourself, click on over to Amazon and start loading videos onto our portable Apple device of choice.
