Onkyo Debuts 3 AV Receivers and HT-S5600 7.1 Home Theater Package

By Rachel Cericola

These days, audio fans have a wealth of content to share with that home theater setup. Onkyo wants that system to be a true entertainment hub, so they are making it so nothing is off limits -- and nothing needs to be tethered.

The company just announced a new crop of AV receivers for 2013, which include features such as WiFi and Bluetooth, THX certification, and much more.

The entry-level model is the 5.2-channel TX-NR525 Network A/V Receiver, and it's an impressive beast. It doesn't have the streaming built-in, but makes all of that wireless technology an option via add-on adapters. Other features include Audyssey MultEQ, InstaPrevue technology and Hybrid Standby, which promises to maintain HDMI and network connectivity. This component also welcomes a lot of additional AV equipment, via six HDMI inputs. According to Onkyo, the TX-NR525 will be coming sometime in May, with an MSRP of $499.

In the middle of the line is the TX-NR626 7.2-Channel Network A/V Receiver. Coming in April, this model comes packing the built-in WiFi and Bluetooth support. It also has Three-Stage Inverted Darlington Circuitry, Qdeo 4K video upscaling technology, and an MSRP of $599.

At the top of the heap is the TX-NR727 7.2-Channel Network A/V Receiver. This is the drool-worthy model, with the WiFi and the Bluetooth, as well as Qdeo 4K video upscaling and upgraded Audyssey MultEQ room acoustic correction. Also important to note is that this model has THX Select2 Plus certification and can crank out sound in larger rooms using the Three-Stage Inverted Darlington Circuitry. It also has support for Dolby Pro Logic IIz, Audyssey DSX upmixing, and a whole-house mode for audio in up to three different zones. Other features on the TX-NR727 include eight HDMI inputs with MHL support and two HDMI outputs. All of those goodies will run you $899, when the receiver starts selling in May.

If you're in need of a home theater overhaul, Onkyo makes buying a whole system simple via the newly announced HT-S5600 7.1-Channel Home Theater Receiver/Speaker Package. This setup features a total of eight speakers. The two in the front and the center have OMF drivers, with a 120-watt active subwoofer rounding out the package. Other features include support for Dolby Pro Logic IIz and Audyssey 2EQ equalization, as well as multizone support via Powered Zone2 connections. It's also compatible with Onkyo's new UBT-1 Bluetooth USB Adapter. Look for this set to start selling in April, with an MSRP of $599.
