New Onkyo HT-S3500 and HT-S5500 Theater Packages Start at $399

Not everyone likes to mix and match audio components. If you're looking for more of a "set it and forget it" type of system, Onkyo is planning to release two new surround sound packages next month.

The HT-S3500 can deliver instant 5.1-channel sound, with the HT-S5500 offering a step up to 7.1. Both models include a receiver with 3D support, four HDMI inputs, Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio decoding, and Audio Channel Return. Both receivers also come packing a front USB port, which makes it easy to add in an iPod or other external memory device.

Besides those goodies, each receiver also has a few items that should impress AV enthusiasts. Some of the features on both include WRAT (Wide Range Amplifier Technology), TI Burr-Brown 192 kHz/24-bit DACs on all channels, a 32-bit DSP processing chip, and discrete output-stage components.

In addition to the two extra speakers, the HT-S5500 also includes the Audyssey room acoustic correction system and support for Dolby Pro Logic IIz so that listeners can experience two additional Front Height channels.

The HT-S3500 is no slouch either, with two bass reflex front speakers, two satellite surrounds, and a bass reflex center speaker. Those 2-way front speakers have a 5-inch OMF Diaphragm woofer. The center speaker has twin cone woofers and tweeters, while the four bass reflex satellite speakers feature a single full-range driver.

Rounding out the setup is the 120-watt subwoofer, which features an 8-inch down-firing cone to add power to movie and music tracks.

Onkyo plans to start selling the HT-S5500 and HT-S3500 next month. Expect to see MSRPs listed at $649 and $399, respectively.
