NAD Offers Free Upgrade to HDMI 2.0/HDCP 2.2 for Select A/V Receivers

By Rachel Cericola

Start building that 4K home theater yet? You'd better get on that. Having 4K allows you to experience four times the resolution of a 1080p HDTV. Of course, you'll need to buy a new TV and/or projector, as well as a receiver. When it comes to the AVR, you could absolutely buy new. However, if you have a receiver made by NAD Electronics, you may qualify for an upgrade.

The company just announced plans to launch the NAD 4K Ready AVR MDC Upgrade Program. This will allow NAD customers to upgrade select receivers and pre-processors using the company's 4K Upgrade Video MDC Module.

Starting today, all T 758, T 777, T 787 and T 187 will ship with an Upgrade Video MDC Module certificate, so they can score the module for free when it becomes available later this year. If you opt to buy the T 758 AVR, you can snag the 4K MDC video module at the special price of $199 (a $400 discount). Each upgrade needs to be completed by an NAD dealer. Just present them with the certificate, along with your proof of purchase.

With the module, each NAD product will be able to support HDMI 2.0, including all of the 4K Video and HDCP 2.2 encryption goodness -- which you're going to need to view 4K movies.

NAD has been incorporating MDC (Modular Design Construction) into its products for years now just for this type of occasion. MDC puts all of the input circuitry on easily removable plug-in cards so that when new technology comes along, each NAD product can be upgraded affordably and easily.

"Technology is changing at an ever-increasing pace and largely due to that, consumers and for that matter dealers, have become gun-shy about jumping on board too early," said Dean Miller, president of Lenbrook America. "Our 4K AVR MDC Upgrade Program protects customers from buying a technology that is half-baked and becoming disappointed. MDC is a perfect solution as it allows someone to enjoy their new AVR or PrePro now and then upgrade when the time is right and they are ready."

Since some of the 4K details are still being worked out, the 4K Upgrade Video MDC Module is still a work in progress. (Hence the I.O.U. on the products that are shipping now.) However, NAD expects the module to be available sometime later in 2015, priced at $599.
