Big Picture Big Sound

Monster EZ-Play Can Wirelessly Connect Up to 8 Different Speakers

By Rachel Cericola

Monster is rocking out a slew of new wireless speakers for CES 2016. Many of those options are portable and feature Bluetooth technology, so you can pair each speaker with any smartphone, tablet, or laptop. However, the company is throwing in a little something extra that can turn a few of these little speakers into one big sound system.

Monster just announced a new audio technology called EZ-Play, which allows you to connect up to eight individual speakers simultaneously and wirelessly. That way, you can broadcast music all over the room, the house, or the yard.

Yes, both the new Tower of Music BTW218 and the cubist-inspired BTW249 work indoors and outside as well. In addition to EZ-Play, each speaker has Bluetooth (NFC) with audible confirmations.

The 20-watt Tower of Music BTW218 boasts 270-degree omni-directional sound, with a 3-way acoustic suspension design, a 2.5-inch full-range speaker, two 2.5-inch tweeters, and two passive radiators. Other perks include an auxiliary-in port, hands-free speakerphone features, and a built-in USB charging port. This model also promises up to 8 hours of playback on a full charge.

Made with outdoor entertaining in mind, the BTW249 is water-resistant and splash-proof. The way the cabinet is designed isn't just great for the elements, but for sound as well. That's because this model splits into two separate speakers. It also has 60-degree omni-directional sound, an auxiliary port, and options for wall-mounting.

In addition to the above speakers, Monster is launching the indoor/outdoor Rockin' wireless speaker line. Made for poolside fun, tailgating, beach-going, camping or just getting out and about, the water- and splash-resistant lineup includes the Rockin' Nomad, the Rockin' Rambler, the Rockin' Roller 2, and the Rockin' Roller Mini.

The Rockin' Nomad has a 30-watt amp, a 3.5mm input for a microphone, and up to 30 hours of playtime. The Rockin' Rambler also has the 30-watt amp, Bluetooth, a built-in FM radio, and a USB port for charging your favorite portables. The 80-watt Rockin' Roller 2 boasts up to 100 hours of playback, with an 8-inch full-range driver. And finally, the Rockin' Roller Mini offer 60 watts of omni-directional sound and up to 36 hours of playback with a 2.25-inch full-range driver and a 5.25-inch subwoofer.

The Tower of Music BTW218 is selling now for $199.99, with the BTW249 priced at $204. Pricing has yet to be announced for all of the Monster Rock ‘N Roller wireless speakers, which should be available in March 2016.
