Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation Will Get Dolby Atmos Sound on Blu-ray

By Rachel Cericola

When we last saw Tom Cruise on-screen, he was hanging from the side of a plane. Think you can't experience those theater-style thrills and chills at home? Paramount is making the impossible quite possible.

The studio just announced plans to release the Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation Blu-ray with a Dolby Atmos track. The film, which was released theatrically back in July has made $673.5 million to date. That number should go up considerably when the Blu-ray Combo Pack is released on December 15, 2015.

Should you choose to accept the latest in the blockbuster franchise, you'll be treated to a really immersive audio track. Dolby Atmos can deliver all of the M:I action from every possible angle, including overhead. If you don't have an Atmos setup yet, the Blu-ray is Dolby TrueHD 7.1 compatible.

In the fifth installment, Ethan Hunt (Cruise) and his crew are trying to stop The Syndicate, a network of rogue operatives turned traitors. It's exactly the type of film you'd want to watch with a Dolby Atmos soundtrack. Besides Cruise, Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation brings back franchise regulars Jeremy Renner, Simon Pegg and Ving Rhames. Alec Baldwin and Rebecca Ferguson also star. (Find out more about the film in Matthew Passantino's theatrical review.)

The Blu-ray Combo Pack includes the Blu-ray, a standard-def DVD, and an UltraViolet Digital Copy of the film, as well as commentary with Cruise and director/screenwriter Christopher McQuarrie. There are also several featurettes on the stunts, including the Airbus stunt featured in the above photo, the underwater sequence, the Moroccan car and motorcycle chase, and more. Paramount has listed the extras as "Lighting the Fuse," "Cruise Control," "Heroes," "Cruising Altitude," "Mission: Immersible," "Sand Theft Auto," and "The Missions Continue."

In addition to a stand-alone Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation release, Paramount will make the latest installment part of the Mission: Impossible 5-movie Blu-ray collection. This box set will include all five movies on Blu-ray, with Digital Copy options and a selection of special features for each film.
