Meet the Oscars - Hold a Real Academy Award in Your Hands

By David Kempler

Do you like movies? If you're reading this, more than likely the answer would be a resounding yes. For all of you movie fans who happen to be in the New York Metropolitan area between now and Sunday March 7th, you have the totally unique opportunity to get face to face with a genuine Oscar statuette and walk through an exhibit dedicated to the history of the Academy Awards.

You can even get your photo taken holding the Oscar and then brag to your friends that you won it a couple of years ago. Those of you in the Chicago area will have a similar opportunity during the same time frame.

One of the Oscars on display will be presented to this year's Best Actress which means that it will end up in the possession of Sandra Bullock, Helen Mirren, Carey Mulligan, Gabourey Sidibe or Meryl Streep. You can see it before they do. Pretty cool.

In addition to the Oscar for this year's Best Actress, the miniature Oscar statuette presented to Judy Garland in 1939 for her outstanding performance in "The Wizard of Oz" will be on display.

You can always go shopping, watch television, or practice the luge on your couch. But you may not get a second chance to hold a real Oscar in your own hands so check it out, movie fans.  After all the price is right (it's free!).
