Marantz Packs a Ton of Technology into SR5011 King-Size Receiver

By Rachel Cericola

Hot on the heels of the slim NR1607 that Marantz announced back in the spring, the company is beefing up its latest release. Marantz just debuted the SR5011, a new full-size network receiver.

This latest 7.2-channel receiver promises 100 watts per channel (8ohm, 20Hz - 20kHz, THD: 0.08%), support for Dolby Atmos (up to 5.1.2) and DTS:X (via a firmware upgrade), wireless connectivity, and pretty much everything else you'd expect them to stuff into a receiver this size. Despite the girth though, Marantz says that the SR5011 is very easy to use and made for just about any home theater.

That hearty chassis includes Marantz's own HDAMs (Hyper Dynamic Amplifier Module), as well as 4K Ultra HD 60Hz video support, 4:4:4 Pure Color sub-sampling, High Dynamic Range (HDR) and 21:9 video, 3D, and BT.2020 pass-through on every input. It also has the latest HDMI 2.0a and HDCP 2.2 specifications on all eight of the unit's HDMI inputs.

Marantz has also packed this model with networking features, including Wi-Fi, AirPlay, and Bluetooth. Users even have the option to stream music directly to the receiver from network attached storage devices (NAS) and web radio, as well as Pandora, SiriusXM, and Spotify Connect. (Just know that subscriptions and/or fees may apply.) For the more finicky listener, high-resolution audio formats are also fully supported.

Adding to the ease of use, Marantz has included Audyssey MultEQ XT, Dynamic Volume, and Dynamic EQ features. Having that MultEQ XT calibration means you can easily tailor the sound to your specific room. Other features include the ability to upscale analog and digital source material up to full 1080p HD or even 4K Ultra HD, two HDMI outputs, RS-232 control, and ISF video calibration. Also know that this model is compatible with Marantz's 2016 AVR Remote app, which is free for iOS, Android, and Kindle Fire devices.

We couldn't find pre-orders for the Marantz SR5011 just yet, but the company says it will start selling in July for $899.
