LG to Ship 2017 Super UHD TVs This Month

By Rachel Cericola

LG Electronics is ending the week with a few big announcements. First, we got pricing and additional details on LG's 2017 OLED TVs. Now they are wrapping up the week with something equally super.

LG just announced pricing and availability for the company's 2017 Super UHD TV lineup. Three models are shipping out before the end of this month, with another two coming in March. LG also says that more models will be announced at a later date.

The hook on Super UHD is that these TVs include LG's proprietary Nano Cell technology, which boasts an expanded color gamut. That means you'll be able to experience more accurate, more detailed, and more lifelike images than ever before -- regardless of the viewing angle.

All of LG's 2017 Super UHD TVs also feature Active HDR, a technology that processes the picture scene by scene. This allows each TV to display brighter scenes and greater shadow details when displaying High Dynamic Range (HDR) content. Each of the new sets will also include support for other HDR formats, including Dolby Vision, HDR10, and HLG (Hybrid Log Gamma). Also worth noting is the new HDR Effect feature, which can boost standard-definition content to deliver better brightness, contrast ratios, and overall imagery.

These 2017 Super UHD TVs also have LG's latest and greatest smart TV platform, webOS 3.5. Other features include Harman Kardon audio and an Ultra Slim design with a funky crescent shape stand.

Before the end of this month, LG will start shipping the 55-inch SJ8500 ($1,999), the 65-inch SJ8500 ($2,799), and the 75-inch SJ8570 ($3,699). The 65-inch SJ9500 and the 86-inch SJ9570 will follow in March, priced at $3,999 and $7,999, respectively.
