LG Starts Selling 2016 OLED 4K TVs with HDR and Dolby Vision

By Rachel Cericola

LG Electronics is unleashing more OLED TVs on the world, bringing the total number of new options to four models (and eight sizes). The newly launched flat-panel B6 and curved-panel C6 series OLED TVs will join the already released LG Signature OLED G6 and LG OLED E6. All are now shipping worldwide.

The hook on OLED technology is that it uses self-lighting pixels that can switch on and off automatically. This creates images with deeper blacks, improved brightness, bolder colors, and a better overall contrast. All eight of LG's 2016 OLED 4K TVs get an extra image boost from high dynamic range (HDR) with Dolby Vision and HDR10 with "Ultra HD Premium" certification by the UHD Alliance.

Having support for both HDR formats guarantees that you'll be able to access whatever HDR content is out there -- as well as what's coming soon. This includes streaming content from Netflix, Amazon Video, and VUDU.

Speaking of streaming, the 2016 OLED 4K TV lineup features plenty of that -- through LG's webOS 3.0 platform. This latest interface adds in new options for finding and switching between content (broadcast TV, streaming services, and external devices). It also includes new mobile features, new remote features, and more content options than ever before.

Also worth mentioning is that all four of the new series look just as good on the outside, thanks to new, narrower bezels. LG says that the two Signature OLED TVs are like "picture-on-glass," meaning that each one has an extra-slim profile, with a depth that measures about one-tenth of an inch. Those same sets also feature a translucent glass back and a forward-facing harman/kardon soundbar that doubles as a stand.

"LG OLED TVs' reputation for having the best picture available is backed by TV experts, Academy Award-winning directors, and consumers alike -- and the ultimate home entertainment experience is even better with new enhancements like HDR," said David VanderWaal, vice president of marketing at LG Electronics USA. "Our 2016 OLED TVs combine our most advanced TV technologies with future-forward, stunning designs to elevate the TV experience to an entirely new level. And now, with two HDR formats, content has never looked more immersive or more lifelike."

All eight of the new OLED TVs are shipping now. The OLEDB6P Flat-Panel 4K OLED Smart TV Series includes the 55-inch OLED55B6P ($3,999) and the 65-inch OLED65B6P ($5,999). The OLEDC6P Curved-Panel 4K OLED Smart TV lineup has the 55-inch OLED55C6P ($3,999) and the 65-inch OLED65C6P ($5,999). The OLEDE6P Flat-Panel 4K OLED Smart TV collection includes the picture-on-glass design in the 55-inch OLED55E6P ($4,999) and the 65-inch OLED65E6P ($6,999). And finally, the OLEDG6P Flat-Panel Signature 4K OLED Smart TV lineup includes the picture-on-glass design and the harman/kardon soundbar stand. That's available in the 65-inch OLED65G6P ($7,999) and the 77-inch OLED77G6P (LG has yet to announce pricing, although Amazon has the 77-incher listed for $24,999).
