LG Irons Out Pricing and Details for EF9500 Flat OLED 4K TVs

By Rachel Cericola

Not looking to get wrapped up in the picture delivered by a curved OLED 4K TV? LG Electronics wants to deliver that awesome OLED image, but without the curved screen.

The company just announced the EF9500 Series, a new lineup of flat OLED 4K TVs. The hook on this set is that OLED (Organic Light-Emitting Diode) technology, which is "self-emissive." That basically means that it doesn't need a backlight because every single pixel lights up and can be turned off entirely when the picture requires it. This gives OLED TVs their stunning black levels and excellent contrast. Oh -- and this model can also deliver images with an eye-popping 4K resolution.

Both of the two sets in the EF9500 Series also support High Dynamic Range (HDR) from external sources and streaming services. LG is also planning to add that perk to EG9600 sets soon, via a free firmware update.

Like all of LG's new 4K TVs, the EF9500 Series includes the webOS 2.0 Smart TV platform. This allows users to easily find content across broadcast TV, streaming services and external devices. It even boasts an easy-to-use interface with Launch Bar menus, so you can always find favorite content in an instant. LG has also packed webOS 2.0 with all kinds of streaming options, including 4K from Amazon Instant Video, Netflix, and YouTube, as well as other HD content.

Other features include LG's Tru-4K HD Engine to upscale images, built-in speakers designed by harman/kardon, 3D support, the Art Slim design, built-in WiFi, three HDMI inputs, and three USB ports.

"OLED TV is not just a new TV -- it's an entirely new category of television that delivers what experts and consumers alike are hailing as the best picture ever," said William Cho, president and CEO of LG Electronics USA. "The introduction of LG's new flat OLED 4K TVs offers consumers more choices of OLED TVs at more competitive pricing and makes the definitive statement that OLED is here to stay."

LG will start shipping the EF9500 Series in September. The 55-inch 55EF9500 is listed with an MSRP of $5,499, with the 65-inch 65EF9500 priced at $6,999. LG is also still selling the EG9600 and EG9700 Curved OLED 4K TVs, in sizes ranging from 55 to 77 inches. There's also theĀ EC9300 Full HD Curved OLED TV, a lone 55-incher that drops the 4K (and the price) for $2,499.
