LG Hecto Laser TV Can Do 100-inch Images from 22 Inches Away

By Rachel Cericola

LG Electronics has been rolling out quite a few interesting announcements over the past few days. However, today's big debut is the one that has us feeling the most like a kid on Christmas morning.

The company just announced the 100-inch "Hecto" Laser TV. However, this isn't just a big screen. It's actually a setup that combines a screen and an external Ultra Short Throw (UST) projection unit to make those big-screen images -- from up to 22 inches away.

LG's laser-based illumination system can project a full 1080p HD resolution, from the wall or the ceiling. The 100-inch screen has LG's slim Cinema Screen design, while the projector device boasts the Dynamic Arc Design.

Other features include a 1,000,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio, a digital tuner and two built-in 10-watt speakers. It can also connect to a host of other AV devices, such as a Blu-ray player or receiver, thanks to three HDMI inputs, an optical audio output, and an RS-232 interface.

Another nifty perk is that the Laser TV setup has both built-in WiDi and WiFi support, so users can easily tap into LG's Smart TV platform and stream the likes of Netflix, YouTube, the Smart World app store, and more, as well as stored digital goodies from the LG Cloud and pretty much any other compatible content from an external USB device.

Everything on the Laser TV system can be controlled with LG's Magic Remote, which has voice, gesture, point and wheel control options.

"LG's 100-Inch class Laser TV takes projection technology and makes it perfectly suitable for both the boardroom and the living room," said Havis Kwon, president and CEO of the LG Electronics Home Entertainment Company. "In the coming year, LG will continue to introduce innovative TV products to provide an outstanding productivity and entertainment experience for our customers."

LG will show the 100-inch Hecto Laser TV at next month's 2013 International CES.
