LG Earns 'Netflix Recommended TV' Rating for 2015 Ultra HD OLED and LED TVs

By Rachel Cericola

Netflix has become the most popular streaming service (or at least one of them). It's available on just about every smart TV sold today. That's great for all of the subscribers looking to buy a new TV, but how do you know which smart TV offers the best Netflix viewing experience?

Back in January 2015, the streaming service announced a plan to launch the "Netflix Recommended TVs" program, a smart TV evaluation program designed to identify which smart TVs deliver the best possible Netflix experience. LG Electronics now has some of the first TVs to get that seal of approval, with its 2015 OLED and LED 4K Ultra HD (UHD) lineup.

More specifically, the LG EG9600 4K UHD OLED Smart TV and UF9500, UF8500, UF7700 and UF7600 4K UHD LED Smart TV series featuring webOS 2.0 are all getting the honors. Each of these sets has gone through Netflix's rigorous evaluation process, which basically looks at how fast the TV turns on, how fast the app launches, and how fast it can resume video playback.

"The Netflix Recommended TV designation for our Ultra HD TVs recognizes LG's exceptional smart TV performance and user interface," said Dave VanderWaal, vice president of marketing at LG Electronics USA. "LG's 4K OLED and LED Smart TVs featuring the advanced webOS 2.0 platform offer an unbeatable combination of breath-taking picture quality and speed, as well as a streamlined, intuitive interface for the best Netflix experience possible."

LG Electronics says that a total of four series and eight models will be released with the Netflix Recommended TV designation. At the top of that lineup is the EG9600 Art Slim Curved 4K UHD OLED TV, which includes an eye-popping 4K image in a slimmer design. Those OLED pixels are self-lighting, meaning they can switch on and off individually. This model also features LG's 4-Color Pixel technology, the 4K upscaler, 3D support, harman/kardon sound, and of course, the webOS 2.0 platform. Available as the 65-inch 65EG9600 and the 55-inch 55EG9600, these models are priced at $8,999.99 and $5,499.99, respectively.

Another Netflix-endorsed option is the lone 65-inch 65UF9500 4K LED TV. As part of the Prime UHD LED TV Series, this model has LG's Ultra Luminance, the 4K In-Plane Switching (IPS) panel, and the LG Prime Mastering Engine. It also has LG's ColorPrime technology, which boasts a better range of colors using different LED phosphor colors. The 65UF9500 also has a 240Hz refresh rate, the webOS 2.0, harman/kardon sound, and an MSRP of $4,499.

The two models in the UF8500 Series have the 4K image, the webOS 2.0 platform, 3D support and the slim-bezel Cinema Screen design. The 65-inch 65UF8500 is priced at $3,199, with the 60-inch 60UF8500 costing $2,999.

The remaining LG Netflix Recommended TVs for now fall under the UF7700 UHD LED TV Series and the UF7600 UHD LED TV Series. That UF7700 lineup includes the 70-inch 70UF7700 ($3,999), the 65-inch 65UF7700 ($2,999), and the 60-inch 60UF7700 ($2,499). The UF7600 has three smaller options, known as the 55-inch 55UF7600 ($1,999), the 49-inch 49UF7600 ($1,699), and the 43-inch 43UF7600 ($1,399).
