Indiana Jones to Ride Back into Theaters with Exclusive IMAX Engagement

By Rachel Cericola

You don't have to wait until September 18th to see Indiana Jones again. That's the date when the franchise will hit Blu-ray. However, Paramount is planning a slew of theater showings, in order to get viewers pumped up for the Indiana Jones: The Complete Adventures Blu-ray box set.

On September 7, 2012, Raiders of the Lost Ark will make its IMAX debut. The classic that kicked off the franchise will have a one-week engagement in glorious IMAX. According to Paramount, the film has been completely restored using proprietary IMAX DMR (digital re-mastering) technology -- and seems to pass director Steven Spielberg's standards.

"When I saw the stunning quality of the picture and heard the enhanced sound in an IMAX theater, I was quite literally blown away and hope that audiences will enjoy the experience as much as I did," said Spielberg.

If you're interested in experiencing this exclusive release, tickets and a list of participating theaters are available now, on the IMAX website.

If IMAX isn't an option, you can experience all four of those movies on the big screen again -- and not just the one in your home. Paramount and AMC Theatres are planning a one-day Indiana Jones marathon on September 15, 2012. The one-day event will feature Raiders of the Lost Ark, Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade and Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. All of the films will be shown in order, on 69 AMC screens across the country.

The marathon will begin at participating AMC locations at 10:30 a.m. local time. Advance tickets are available now through the AMC website. AMC Stubs members who buy a ticket prior to September 15 will receive $5 in Bonus Bucks on their AMC Stubs account, valid the day of the event.

"For film fans of all ages, this is an extraordinary opportunity to see every exhilarating moment of Indiana Jones' adventures on the big screen," said Robert J. Lenihan, president of programming at AMC. "We are thrilled to present this exciting one-day event as fans gear up for the arrival of all four Indiana Jones films on Blu-ray."

If you can't make any of the theatrical engagements, Indiana Jones: The Complete Adventures will be available on Blu-ray starting September 18th. The 5-disc set includes all four movies from the franchise and seven hours of bonus material, including the new two-part documentary, "On Set with Raiders of the Lost Ark - From Jungle to Desert and From Adventure to Legend."
