In the early days of High Definition, the Olympics were one of those special occasions that really shined in the new higher resolution digital broadcast format. And now in the age of 4K Ultra High Definition, it's time for the Olympics to step up their game as well.
DISH Announced this week that it will offer select coverage of the 2018 Winter Olympics in 4K Ultra HD resolution with HDR (High Dynamic Range) support. What better way to show off your new 4K OLED, QLED or LED TV than with the Olympics Opening Ceremony or Snowboarding action in true 4K resolution with HDR? All those beautiful pixels! There's a catch, though. The 4K coverage will be delayed one day from the standard HD broadcasts, so keep off of social media and don't watch the news if you don't want any medal spoilers. The good news? DISH reps tell us you will be able to record the 4K/HDR stream to your DVR for later playback.
In order to watch the Olympics in 4K on DISH, you'll need a compatible set top box (Dish Hopper 3), then you can tune into the dedicated 4K Olympics channel: Channel 540. 4K HDR coverage will include footage from the Opening Ceremony, figure skating, hockey, short track speed skating, ski jumping, and snowboard big air, as well as scenic video snippets from PyeongChang, South Korea and the surrounding area.
Up to three events from the previous days' competition schedule will be provided in 4K resolution daily on DISH channel 540 from Feb. 10, the day after the Opening Ceremony, through Feb. 26, the day after the Games conclude.

The 2018 Winter Olympics (Winter Olympiad XXIII) are being held in PyeongChang, South Korea from February 9 to February 25, 2018 and are being broadcast on NBCUniversal Networks. In addition to the 4K/DHR coverage, DISH is partnering with NBCUniversal to offer over 2,400 hours of Olympics coverage, live and on-demand. They're even offering an app to help guide you through all this coverage.
