Big Picture Big Sound

Emotiva Packs Big Sound into Small Airmotiv 3b Bluetooth Speaker

By Rachel Cericola

Some spaces can't accommodate a big picture or big sound. However, you shouldn't have to suffer because you lack the space for a giant set of speakers. Not to worry; Emotiva Audio Corporation is packing big sound into the small footprint of the new Airmotiv 3b.

The Airmotiv 3b is a palm-sized Bluetooth desktop speaker that can deliver big sound from tablets, smartphones, laptops and desktop computers. Each speaker measures a mere 5.5-by-6.75-by-4.12 inches, so it can fit snuggly into any space on your desk, bookshelf, counter or other available spot.

Inside the two-way, tuned-port design, the Airmotiv 3b features a 0.75-inch dome tweeter and a 3-inch long-throw woofer, along with an integrated 30-watt Class D amplifier (so 60 watts stereo). It also has a 32-bit digital signal processor for everything from music to movies to games.

And since the Airmotiv 3b has Bluetooth 2.0 with aptX technology, you don't have to worry about being tethered or having wires everywhere. If that's something you're interested in, the speaker does have a separate line input for DACs and portable music players.

Other features include MDF cabinets, a satin black lacquer finish, and a control panel on the top of the right speaker.

"Our Airmotiv line started out as a series for audio pros, but it quickly became a favorite among end-users looking for the perfect powered speakers to handle music, gaming and streaming video," says Dan Laufman, president of Emotiva. "Our new Airmotiv 3b continues the series' high value proposition by fitting anywhere, connecting easily, and most important, producing sonics that are light years ahead of what you would expect for the price."

Emotiva is shipping the Airmotiv 3b now, priced at $199 per pair.
