Emotiva Highlights High-Res Audio and 4K with BasX MC-700 Processor

By Rachel Cericola

When it comes to putting together a great home theater, Emotiva Audio Corporation says it's not all about the money you put into it. Instead, the company is showing that high-end performance can be affordable, with the launch of the BasX MC-700 surround sound processor.

The BasX MC-700 can support 4K UHD HDR video and all current 5.1- and 7.1-channel surround sound audio formats. It should be noted that this does not include support for the newer immersive audio formats, such as Dolby Atmos and DTS:X.

That said, the BasX MC-700 does have six HDMI inputs, with three of those supporting the 4K UHD HDR video with HDMI 2.0 and HDCP 2.2. Other features include 32-bit dual core DSPs, two analog audio inputs, and three digital audio inputs, as well as Bluetooth (an optional Bluetooth receiver module is required). It even has bass management, a built-in headphone amp, and fully configurable manual parametric equalizers.

Designed to be easy enough for anyone to operate, the BasX MC-700 can be controlled through the front panel or the included IR remote.

"We call BasX our ‘aspirational line', but a powerhouse processor like the MC-700 crushes competitive models at similar price points," said Dan Laufman, Emotiva's president and founder. "The combination of 4K UHD High Dynamic Range (HDR) video, high-resolution surround sound audio, and the latest generation of our highly-acclaimed EmoQ automatic room correction system makes the MC-700 the best choice for anybody who wants to take their home theater experience to another level, but without paying the high prices of typical audiophile gear."

Emotiva will start shipping the BasX MC-700 at the end of this month, with an MSRP of $599. If you don't get your hands on one right away, the company will be showing off the product at next month's CES in Las Vegas.
