Emotiva Debuts BasX Amps & Preamps for the Aspiring Audiophile

By Rachel Cericola

Looking to build a home theater system that would satisfy your inner audiophile, but also please your inner bargain hunter? Emotiva Audio Corporation has just the lineup.

The company just launchedĀ BasX, a new collection of components designed to deliver audiophile quality at an affordable price. The lineup includes four power amplifiers, with various output power levels and configurations from two to eight channels. All BasX amplifiers feature robust toroidal power supplies and muscular Class A/B output stages.

The collection also includes theĀ PT-100 preamp/tuner ($299), which has an FM tuner, as well as plenty of digital and analog inputs. It has a phono preamp that supports moving magnet and moving coil cartridges, a USB input for digital audio up to 24-bit/94kHz, and an optional Bluetooth module input. The TA-100 tuner/amplifier ($399) has all of the features of the PT-100, but adds in a stereo amplifier that boasts 50 watts RMS per channel.

Designed for smaller systems, the BasX A-100 integrated amplifier ($199) would also work well as an auxiliary amplifier for a larger setup. It features an automatic turn-on and a high-powered headphone output. Based on the Mini X, the BasX A-100 has front-panel volume control, a Class A/B output stage, fault protection, audiophile speaker terminals, a trigger input and output, and the ability to switch on automatically when an input signal is detected. It can also crank 50 watts RMS to each of its two channels.

The BasX A-800 multi-zone distribution amplifier ($599) boasts 50 watts RMS (into 8 ohms) for each of its eight channels. However, channel pairs are bridgeable to 100 watts per channel into 8 ohms. Other features include a heavy duty power supply, Class A/B output stages on each channel, fault protection, and front-panel status indicators. It even has individual inputs for each channel and an input bus for multi-zone and multi-room sound distribution.

The BasX A-150 ($299), the BasX A-300 ($399), the BasX A-500 ($499), and the BasX A-700 ($599) are all power amps. Each one has a heavy duty power supply, Class A/B output stages on each channel, fault protection, front-panel status indicators, audiophile-quality speaker terminals, and a trigger input and output. The BasX A-150 boasts 75 watts RMS into 8 ohms for each of its two channels, while the BasX A-300 bumps that up to 150 watts per channel. The BasX A-500 can crank 100 watts to each of its five channels, while the BasX A-700 offers 100 watts for each of the seven channels featured.

The last of the new BasX models is the BasX MC-700 ($599), a 7.1 AV preamp/processor. It has twin dual-core 32-bit DSP engines, five HDMI 2.0-capable inputs with HDCP 2.2, and Emotiva's Emo-Q automatic room correction engine. Other features include manual parametric EQ on all channels with independent pre-sets, a pure analog bypass mode, analog inputs, and USB audio support.

"A central part of Emotiva's mission has been making it easy to explore and enjoy high-end audio technology that is affordable and a no-brainer to use," says Dan Laufman, Emotiva's president and founder. "We consider BasX a real breakthrough in terms of delivering audiophile power and performance at price points that allow a far larger segment of the market to enjoy high-end audio."

Emotiva will be selling all of the BasX components on the company's website, as well as through authorized Emotiva dealers.
