Denon Pumps Up the Music Maniac and Urban Raver Headphone Lines

By Rachel Cericola

Last spring, Denon unleashed an insane amount of headphones -- a total of 11 pairs across four different styles. Apparently, two of those lines were in need of a few extra pairs, because the company is adding new Music Maniac and Urban Raver models.

The company just announced that all six products are now shipping. The new options include the On-Ear AH-D340 and In-Ear AH-C250 Music Maniac models, and the AH-D320RD and AH-D320BU On-Ears and the AH-C100RD and AH-C100BU In-Ears for the Urban Raver line.

Denon's Music Maniac line was designed with the traditional audiophile in mind. Tuned to a flat EQ, all of the current models have patent-pending music technologies. The new AH-D340 Music Maniac On-Ear Headphone has Denon's 2-axis ear cup design, patent-pending pentagonally shaped memory foam ear pads, and glass fiber reinforced molded ear cups. It also has 40mm drivers with neodymium magnets and a 3-foot-long non-tangle cable with an in-line remote and microphone for use with an iPhone, iPod or iPad. The MSRP on the AH-D340 is $299.

The two new Music Maniac models include the On-Ear AH-D340 and In-Ear AH-C250.

At $249, the In-Ear AH-C250 features in-ear housing and a slightly less expensive price. Other features include a specially designed single balanced armature driver encased in zinc die-cast housing, as well as a Teflon-coated, non-tangle cable with an in-line remote and mic. It also comes with a variety of silicon and double-solid silicon eartips, for a customized, comfortable fit.

Both of the above models work nicely with the Denon Audio Smartphone App, which has the option to create, store and share custom EQ curves with a 1000-band equalizer. It also lets listeners use that custom EQ on stored music or one of the over 70,000 web radio stations that can be accessed through the app.

Designed for the younger enthusiast with discerning musical taste, the Urban Raver line puts an emphasis on bass, which is perfect for some of today's contemporary tunes. At $199 each, the new AH-D320RD is black with red accents, with the AH-D320BU getting blue accents. Both are on-ear models with the Control Wheel design, 40mm drivers with neodymium magnets, the 2-axis ear cup design, and a 0.25-inch gold-plated adapter jack.

At $99 each, the AH-C100RD comes in black with red accents, while the AH-C100BU has blue accents. Each one has 11mm driver diaphragms and neodymium magnets for dynamic sound. The non-tangle cable includes an in-line remote and microphone. There's also a choice of ear tips, which include small, medium and large silicon or the Comply Foam option.

All of the Urban Raver models work with the Denon Club App. Like the Audio App, this one allows for customized EQ and EQ presets, as well as access to web radio. It also taps into the Urban Raver Community, so users can relay favorite music through Facebook and Twitter, look up lyrics, share artist info, and more.

"Since we launched our lineup of lifestyle headphones this past year, we've received phenomenal feedback from both longtime Denon fans and consumers who are just now discovering the brand," said Petro Shimonishi, senior global product manager for Denon Headphones. "These new versions of some of our most popular models offer terrific value that will bring Denon's legacy of craftsmanship, advanced technology and unique lifestyle-specific apps into consumer's lives. We continue to stand by our tagline that Denon headphones are specially engineered to Sound Like You, Fit Like You, and Move Like You, so you can feel the music like never before."
