Denon Electronics is making a big push to put Dolby Atmos into your living room. The company has released a slew of interesting Atmos-enabled products, including the recent AVR-X1200W receiver. Now, two additional options are on the way.
The 7.2-channel AVR-X4200W is a new A/V receiver that comes with support for Dolby Atmos out of the box. However, just to make sure you don't miss out on any opportunities forĀ in-your-face (and over-your-head) audio, the company will make DTS:X support available via a free firmware update later this year. The Auro-3D sound processing engine is another immersive option, if you're willing to pay for that upgrade. That basically means that this one receiver can deliver all sorts of 3D-like sound -- and from every angle.
It's important to note that the AVR-X4200W can support four height speakers (versus just two), which is preferred if you want truly immersive sound. Just pair a 2-channel power amp with this big boy and choose between 5.1.4 or 7.1.2 configurations (It does both!) for truly immersive sound.
Promising 125 watts (8ohm, 20-20KHz, THD:0.05%) to each of those seven channels, the AVR-X4200W sends audio signals through the Denon D.D.S.C-HD (Dynamic Discrete Surround Circuit High Definition) and AL24 Processing Plus processors, as well as the unit's 192kHz/32-bit D/A converters. It even has support for streaming and high resolution audio formats, including high resolution DSD, FLAC and AIFF.
Also worth mentioning is that this unit is made to work with multiple displays and multiple sources (even 4K ones). It has eight HDMI 2.0a inputs with support for HDCP 2.2 content protection, three HDMI outputs, 11 speaker terminals, and 13.2-channel pre-out connections.
Other features include Denon Link HD Connection for use with a Denon Blu-ray player, built-in WiFi, AirPlay, DLNA, Bluetooth, Audyssey MultEQ XT32 with Pro calibration, Sub EQ HT and LFC (Low Frequency Containment).
In addition to the AVR-X4200W, Denon will also ship the AVR-X3200W 7.2-channel Network A/V Receiver soon. This model also has built-in Atmos, with the option for DTS:X coming later this year. However, it can only do up to a 5.1.2 configuration, with 105 watts for each of its seven channels (8ohm, 20-20kHz, THD:0.08%). Using a quad-core 32-bit DSP processor and advanced video processing, the AVR-X3200W can scale signals up to 1080p and even near-4K quality. Other features include eight HDMI 2.0a inputs and two HDMI outputs with HDCP 2.2 support, as well as built-in WiFi, Bluetooth, AirPlay, DLNA, a front-panel USB port, ISF certification, Audyssey MultEQ XT with Audyssey Dynamic Volume and Dynamic EQ, two multiroom zones, RS-232 control, and more.
Denon will start shipping the AVR-X4200W and the AVR-X3200W sometime in August. The company has priced these AVRs at $1,499 and $999, respectively.
