Definitive Technology SoloCinema XTR 5-channel Sound Bar Now Shipping

By Rachel Cericola

Back at the beginning of the summer, we were talking up the announcement of the Definitive Technology SoloCinema XTR Sound Bar package. Now, the company is delivering on that promise; the product has started shipping.

Measuring 43-by-5.19-by-5.38 inches, the SoloCinema XTR sound bar can give that new flat-screen TV the sound it deserves. The setup also has five discrete channels, patent-pending drivers for each speaker element, and 200 watts of power. Rounding out the package is a 250-watt wireless subwoofer, which measures just 6 inches deep.

Other features include support for audio formats like Dolby True HD, Dolby Pro Logic II, DTS-HD, Dolby Volume, and more, as well as three HDMI inputs to help deliver that lossless high-definition audio experience.

Another nice perk is that the setup process couldn't be easier, with just connectors from the sound bar to the TV and DVD/Blu-ray player. The subwoofer links to the setup wirelessly, so no other cables or connectors are needed.

"You may have a stunning, high definition picture on your home theater system, but you're listening to sound coming from two-inch speakers that point away from you," said Paul DiComo, Definitive's senior VP of marketing and product development. "As a result, you miss the excitement of movies, concerts and games. Great sound is key to the fullest enjoyment of any media experience."

Definitive Technology provides all of the hardware needed to place the SoloCinema XTR on a shelf or above a TV stand, as well as to mount the unit to the wall. The system also comes with its own remote control, which features control buttons that are concave and convex for easy navigation.

The SoloCinema XTR is selling now, with an MSRP of $1,999.
